Buick Notches 200 Winners for the Year in the UK
Champion driver William Buick hits 200 winners in a UK calendar year for the first time in partnership extreme to win the opening handicap mile.
The 4-year-old, coached by Mick Appleby and dropped from the favorites 1-2, clearly finished daafy when Buick hit the landmark number for the first time in his career.
Speaking to Sky Sports Racing, Buick said: “I told Tony (Hind), my agent, six weeks ago when we had 31 winners to go see if we should try.
“It was within reach, but like things don’t go to plan anytime soon but we have today. It’s been great and I’ve had a lot of support, so thank you everyone.
“Charlie Appleby and Godolphin also had a great year, that could last forever.”
Buick’s ride is almost perfect after Zealot slowly leaves the stall. He spurred his horse in an instant to squeeze into the gap in the far rail and he had a ready partner when he got to his feet by the neck.
It yielded a hat-trick for Zealot, who won the field and distance for the second time in seven days and scored his third win in four starts since joining Appleby from Eve Johnson Houghton. .
