BTSband members — including RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, DRAW and Jungkook—It was announced that they are temporarily shutting down in a video posted to social media on June 14.
“Each of us will take a moment to have fun and experience many things,” said Jungkook. “We promise to return one day, even more mature than now.”
While the K-pop stars did not note how long the hiatus would last, they expressed a desire to explore solo projects. “I’ve always thought that BTS is different from other groups, but the problem with K-pop and the whole idol system is that they don’t give you time to grow up,” RM said according to a translation by NME. “You have to keep making music and keep doing something.”
However, the decision was not an easy one. “No matter what, we can’t help thinking about the fans, we want to be the kind of artists that are remembered by the fans. I think now we’re starting to think about the kind of artists that each we want to be remembered by our fans,” added Jimin. “I think that’s why we’re going through a tough time right now, we’re trying to figure out our identity and it’s been an exhausting and long process.”
