The thought of coaching Amir Khan never crossed Brian “Bomac” McIntyre’s mind. The celebrity trainer has a long list of champion-level fighters under his care and guidance, including former WBO super featherweight champion Jamel Herring, 168-pound competitor Steven Nelson, and all However, the star balancer, Terence Crawford.

When Crawford and Khan faced off in April 2019, Bomac watched from the sidelines as he successfully guided Crawford to a one-way win in the sixth inning. Despite the war of words between both sides, Bomac now found himself cheering for Khan.

The longtime coach worked carefully with Khan for several months as the former 140-pound title-winning athlete was preparing to take on fellow Brit, Kell Brook. Though he is initially shocked by the Khan team’s approach, Bomac reveals that their relationship has been very smooth sailing.

Bomac told Boxing Social: “I believe his wife, Faryal, was in contact with one of the trainers. “Another guy was flirting with me on Instagram so we went over and chatted for a bit. He had been coming to Omaha for about a week to have a nice chat and organize his work and try to train us a little bit. That is really good. A few weeks later, we went to Colorado Springs and he went there. ”

What followed, was a strong bond not only between Bomac and Khan but also Crawford and Khan. In addition to allowing Bomac to mold him as he saw fit, Khan also viewed their partnership as a meaningful one.

A year after Crawford’s explosive victory over Khan, the WBO multi-division and defending champion, scored a fourth-round winner against Khan’s upcoming opponent, Kell Brook. Crawford made it through some tough rounds initially before landing quickly in the fourth round. A stunned Brook stumbles across the ring and withers under a series of difficult hits.

Considering his familiarity with Brook as a boxer, Bomac believes that since he was able to topple him once, doing so again shouldn’t be an issue.

“I think if I can beat Kell Brook once, I can beat him a second time. It was a pretty easy decision.”

But, despite Bomac’s confidence, he realizes that this time he won’t go into battle with a star heavyweight. The longtime coach admitted that his original game plan used to beat Brook was unnecessary at this point. Even so, Bomac believes he’s built enough rapport with his new fighter to lead him to victory.

“It must have been a different game plan because Amir is a completely different fighter. You must know what your fish is capable of. The game plan will be different because of what he brings to the table as a boxer. ”
