Breeders ‘Cup kicks off the bounty for participating in the mud race
Breeders’ Cup announced on May 26 a new incentive-based participation bonus program for riders only athletes who run in land races during the 2022 Breeders’ Cup World Championship. The 12-race program, titled Breeders’ Cup Dirt Dozen, includes existing ranked races scheduled from May to October at six racetracks in the United States.
The Dirt Dozen program will award bonus credits, sponsored by Breeders’ Cups, for first- to third-place finishers, to be used by riders towards the entrance fee to one of the six championship races. In Breeders ‘Cup Dirt Dozen’ races in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup racing division, prize money is allocated at $30,000 for first place, $15,000 for second and $7,500 for second. third position. In Dirt Dozen races in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup racing categories, the bonus tier will award $15,000 for first place, $7,500 for second and $3,750 for third.
Dirt Dozen kicks off May 7 with a Derby City Distaff event presented by Kendall-Jackson Winery (G1) at Churchill Downs. The first three finishers in the race earned an entry credit for a potential start in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint or for a championship race.
