By BMW The performance-obsessed M-Part will turn 50 in 2022. It will celebrate five decades of helping BMW go faster (and win races) by launching a session heritage icon limited edition, bearing some historical imprint colour return to its palette and release new models.
Starting in 2022, buyers who order a complete M car (like the M3, NS M4, and X5 CODE) will receive a vehicle with commemorative emblems on both ends and on the center cap. Shown in the gallery above, the BMW logo is surrounded by white, red, purple and blue accents – colors associated with the M brand. BMW USA note that it first used this logo on its racing cars in 1973, a year after its founding. Customers who receive an M Performance model (such as M340i) will be able to order the icon as a paid option.
Why these colors? We’ll let M explain it.
The company explained in a statement: “Blue represents BMW, while red represents racing and purple represents the connection between the two,” the company explained in a statement, also adds that purple has since been replaced by a darker blue. White is simply the background.
Speaking of colors, some of M’s most eye-catching paint colors are coming back in 2022. These include Dakar Yellow, Fire Orange, Daytona Violet, Macao Blue, Imola Red and Frozen Marina Bay Blue. Enthusiasts will instantly recognize most of these colors: Dakar Yellow was popular in the 1990s, while Macao Blue is often associated with the original, generation E30. M3. Not all of these colors will be offered on every M model, but a list of which cars will be eligible to receive which paint colors has yet to be released.
The new product announcement ceremony will also be part of the celebration. While the details are relatively vague, some of the M cars that will break cover in 2022 include “a particularly spectacular model of the M4 Coupe,” Next M2and the first electrified high-performance model of the M.
BMW warns that only cars ordered after the end of January 2022 will be shipped with the commemorative emblem and is scheduled to start production in March 2022. There is no word on this option yet. how much will it cost on M Performance models. And, the company doesn’t stop there; it is also planning to hold or attend several events as part of its 50th birthday celebration. Notably, it will be available at the Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance (hopefully with an interesting concept) scheduled for May 2022 and at Goodwood Festival of Speed the following June.
