BMW has announced that the new BMW i5 G60E and BMW 5-Series G60 will make their world debut tomorrow, May 24 at 2pm CEST, which is 8pm GMT+8 Malaysia time. At launch, the i5 will be the brand’s first all-electric 5 Series.
The i5 will be offered in at least two variants, including the M60 xDrive and eDrive40, although the German automaker did not provide other details such as output, battery capacity and range.
The new 5 Series will also feature the brand’s ninth-generation Vertical Dynamic Management, which is the available Adaptive Suspension Professional electronically controlled damping control system.
We got a look at the i5 from the front three-quarter view in motion thanks to an image leaked on the internet a few days ago. The leaked images give us a pretty good look at some of the design features that will appear on the upcoming i5, some of which also apply to the regular 5 Series.
First, the angled headlights seem to face more forward and come with L-shaped daytime running lights, a rear light style reminiscent of the latest 3 Series.
Meanwhile, the kidney-shaped grille has increased in size, though not so much as to try to mimic the large nostrils on the i7. Instead, the i5’s grille is more upright than what you’ll see on the upcoming facelift G30 5 Series, while also being more upright.
Similarly, the central air intake in the lower part of the front bumper is more prominent thanks to being larger than on the G30, and also has the same hexagonal shape as the 3 Series. As for the windscreens, they are tucked deep into the corners of the bumper and are smaller in size than the G30.
