Bentley created a one-off version of the Continental GT to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the R-Type Continental.
The special Bentley Continental GT V8 Azure Paying homage to the ’50s icon with Old English White exterior paint, bright chrome details and 22-inch glossy black wheels.
Burr Walnut perforated veneer is applied liberally throughout the cabin and Cricket Ball leather with Beluga leather accents offers a faithful reproduction of the JAS 949, the original in Bentley’s stockpile known by the number plate.
This model was originally owned by Swiss Dr. Rowland Guenin, with Ivory paint and red leather interior.
The JAS 949 is one of only 208 original R-Type Continentals ever built and is part of a heritage collection of 43 vehicles currently available at Bentley’s Heritage Garage at its headquarters in Crewe.
As with the standard GT Azure Continentone-time feature 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine manufacture 404kW power and 770Nm torque, sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission sourced from the ZF.
It has a top speed of 319 km/h and can complete the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 4 seconds.
In contrast, the R-Type Continental has a 4.6-liter inline-six engine that produces 114 kW of power through a nearly 4-speed gearbox, helping the model accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 13 seconds. ,6 seconds.
Launched in 1953, the R-Type Continental was described as a ‘modern magic carpet that destroys great distances’ and was the fastest 4-seater luxury saloon in the world at the time with a top speed of 185km/h. H.
The design principles of the original R-Type Continental, such as the power lines from the front wheels, rear struts and pitched roofline, have been built upon every version of the Continental GT since its launch in year 2003.
As in BentyagaThe latest generation Continental GT Azure features seats equipped with Bentley technology that massage to provide ‘micro-adjustments of muscles and posture’ to prevent driver fatigue , as well as adjustable side cushions, electrically adjustable seat belts and comfortable headrests.
The model also features Dynamic Ride, an active anti-roll control system that ensures a smooth ride by applying up to 1300Nm of anti-roll torque to prevent movement in the cabin.
Azure specifically will be commissioned on Bentley’s press team, with journalists also given access to JAS 949.
