SACK MAIL BULGING OF MAGNO: BIVOL, CANELO, CRAWFORD-SPENCE, PLANT-BENAVIDEZ

Welcome to another Thursday edition of Magno’s Bulging Mail Sack, the only boxing mailbox column not endorsed by geeks and eccentrics in the Boxing Writers Association of America. This week we have comments/questions about the plans of Dmitry Bivol, Canelo Alvarez, Crawford-Spence and Plant-Benavidez.

Bivol, Crawford, Plant-Benavidez

Paul. I haven’t written to you for a minute.

First of all, I want to ask about Bivol. After the fight with Canelo, he seemed like a real, very good boxer, but now he has the potential to be a big star. Zurdo Ramírez is a good fighter, I never thought he was a great fighter. He was too slow for Bivol. As soon as we encountered him in the first rounds with those combos, he started to fade and felt like I loved my Mexican boxer 100%, but I have to say this guy is a killer. What do you think ??

And now… why doesn’t Crawford want to fight Spence? Why is it happening and is this another Pacquiao-Mayweather we won’t see it for years and honestly I don’t want to see it for many more years. I want to see it now.

Thanks, Paul. Let me know what you think

Oh, one more thing. Plant Benavidez. What do you think? Who do you have? I like Plants. I do not know why. I just think he has better footwork than Benavidez and he has a touch and movement that can beat an opponent. Thank.

Hey AF.

I’ve had ups and downs with Bivol. He looked really good and was really sharp when he was promoted and in his first few title defenses. He then hit a series of about half a dozen skirmishes where he seemed to only pass through the motions, trying minimally to get a decisive victory. However, the fight with Canelo seems to have woken him up a bit and he is fighting with a bit of fire added to his calm and cool precision. Despite that, he’s a tough task for anyone and clearly a step ahead of those looking to claim his title at the moment. I expected him to beat Ramirez, but I was still impressed by his ability to maintain composure throughout the competition and his ability to continue to maintain the perfect technique of the image, working completely. in his own comfort zone. He was impressive. I don’t see him as an assassin, but he IS a machine.

I think Spence and Crawford want to fight each other. I think the ego is in the way. I also think the current bad business climate of boxing is making things infinitely more difficult. To be honest, Terence Crawford’s general swagger is also an important factor. I used to be pretty confident that this fight would eventually happen. I’m not sure anymore. A lot can happen while two proud boxers surround each other over and over again.

As for Plant-Benavidez? I’ve made a huge mark on Caleb Plant since he was my first potential client. However, I have some doubts as to whether he can withstand the pressure David Benavidez brings. But, again, clever movement and precision tend to negate much of what makes a pressure fighter so impressive. So we’ll see. That’s why this fight is so fascinating. It’s as close to a 50-50 fight at the top as we see these days.

Right now, it is expected, I will choose Benavidez by decision.

Canelo-Bivol 2?

Hi Paul.

Love your bag and your work. I’ve been reading for a few years now. My question for you is about Canelo Alvarez and his rematch with Dmitry Bivol. Do you think the fight will happen next. If so, who wins and how?

Thank. Take care of yourself in the wilds of Mexico.

– Gabriel Hernandez-Blancas

Hey Gabriel.

I tried my best that Alvarez did NOT want to return to the ring with Bivol. He is a tactician smart enough to see how unequivocally he has lost and how slim his chances will be of making any adjustments to help him win. in the rematch. Bivol just didn’t make any mistakes, didn’t waver, didn’t let his guard down, didn’t allow any chance for the smaller gladiator to do what he was supposed to do. And Canelo, as the lesser boxer, absolutely needs some loophole he can exploit. That won’t change in season 2 and Alvarez has to know that.

Of course, he has to provide lip service to return. But it was all to save face after a pretty decisive showdown. If Canelo were on fire for “venganza”, he would have faced Bivol in an immediate rematch, instead of fighting Golovkin and now drifting with no “next opponent” locked up.

A bout with Bivol was just a tough one, uncompetitive for Canelo, in a weight class he simply didn’t belong in. I don’t think we’ll see him try Russian again.
