Billam-Smith Vs Chamberlain set for July 30 in Bournemouth
Chris Billam-Smith (15-1, 11 KOs) will get the chance to lead a TV show in his hometown of Bournemouth for the first time in his career.
On August 30, ‘The Gentleman’ faces Isaac Chamberlain (14-1, 8 KOs) at the Bournemouth International Centre. However, there is still no confirmation whether the match will be Billam-Smith’s third Cruiserweight title defense.
The all-British encounter will lead a show that will televised on Sky Sports.
The 31-year-old champion is in a great position to hit his first world title soon but Chamberlain’s challenge is not to be missed.
In the current world ranking Billam-Smith ranked second and third with WBO and IBF respectively. Interestingly, Richard Riakporhe, promoted by BOXXER and also a Sky Sports fighter, is one place ahead of him in the IBF rating. The two fought Riakporhe to win the decisive match three years ago.
In stark contrast, the career of Chamberlain, who fought on Channel 5 with Hennessy Sports, has been marred by injury and inactivity.
The 28-year-old has fought 15 times in seven and a half years, but his talent is always appreciated and often the most appreciated. Chamberlain had the opportunity to prove himself four years ago against arch-rival Lawrence Okolie but lost decisively in a fight that was frankly unforgettable.
A win for Chamberlain would not only land him the European title but also see him rise above the world rankings and into the mix of the world scene.
Billam Smith says:
“I’m leaving! I’m so excited to be fighting back at home in front of my friends, family and supporters. The atmosphere is why I’m into boxing and on July 30 the atmosphere is going to be exciting. “
“As I always say, it doesn’t matter who’s in the corner, I just want to fight back at home. In front of my hometown audience, I always perform.”
While Chamberlain added:
“This is a huge opportunity.”
“I want to say a huge thank you to manager Mick Hennessey for sticking with me all these years, along with my coaches. Now that we’re on Sky, we’re back in time and I’m ready to show everyone this is a different Isaac from the one they’ve seen before. “
