Notes on MagSafe and Case Size

MagSafe is the name of a ring of magnets attached to the back of the iPhone 12″, iPhone 13″and the iPhone 14 range. It lets you attach magnetic accessories to the back of your smartphone, from wallets and wireless chargers to phone clips and tripods. Apple says its magnet accessories are shielded, so they’re safe to use with a credit card (if possible, not a hotel key card). We mainly recommend MagSafe cases in this guide because there is real utility in using the system.

However, you should be careful when shopping. Cases require a MagSafe magnet ring built into them to work properly with other MagSafe accessories (an easy way to spot it is to find a magnet ring on the inside of the carrying case in the image. product). Not every third-party case has them. Some companies claim their cases are “MagSafe compatible” even without the magnets, but that could be because the cases are thin enough for the magnets to stick. However, the connection is almost always weak. If you plan to use a MagSafe device, make sure there is a magnet ring in the carrying case.

To add, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are the same size as the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, respectively. You might think you can swap instances between them, but you can’t. The camera modules on the Pro models are larger, and that means the ones for them won’t be suitable for cheaper iPhones.
