Bentley revealed Second special model built by Coach Mullinerand it represents a crossroads for the brand. It’s called the Bentley Mulliner Batur, and it’s the core engine for Bentley, the twin-turbo W12. It is also a sign of things to come. The styling you see here will be adapted for Bentley’s future Electric Car.
The car was clearly Bentley from the get-go. It has a long front end, a prominent rounded rectangular grille, a rear-set cabin and wide, flowing rear fenders. But it has a more aggressive look than some recent Bentleys. The grille looks as if it’s leaning more forward. Instead of round headlights, it has swiping elements that look like eagle eyes. The rear window, instead of stepping up, sits low along the belt line. The rear has an almost boattail design and has slender taillights. It’s Bentley, but it’s also new.
Inside is obviously closely related to Continental GT, that’s not a bad thing. But it can be set separately with special materials. Batur buyers will have the ability to customize almost every aspect of the vehicle with different skins from different locations, different interior trim and upholstery designs. Bentley also offers some very unique materials. Metal pieces like organ vent switches can be made from titanium or even 3D-printed 18-karat gold. Some interior trim can be made from natural fiber composites, like carbon fiber, but made from natural fibers rather than synthetically created carbon. Natural fibers can be used for the front splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser. And of course the exterior can be customized with just about any paint color and graphic imaginable.
Bentley says the Batur is powered by the most powerful twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 engine ever. It makes 730 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with adaptive air suspension, active anti-roll bars, all-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, an electronic limited-slip differential and torque vectoring technology to help it handle as good as being able to walk in a straight line. Preventing it is a set of carbon silicon carbide brake with 10-piston front and four-piston rear brake calipers.
Only 18 Baturs will be built and all of them will be used. Prices start at £1.65 million, or $1.95 million. While there will only be a few of these Baturs, keep an eye out for its design to appear in the upcoming Bentley EVs in 2025.
