Beaute Cachee’s Class Wins Matchmaker Stakes

Frankie Dettori’s world-acclaimed horsemanship was on full display in the Matchmaker Stakes (G3T) on July 20, as the jockey guided Grade 1 winner Beautiful Cachee to win in a leading performance Monmouth Park grass.

Sent from the outside in a field of seven mares and fillies, Dettori and a willing mare in Beaute Cachee ran the first segments in leisurely times of :25.16, :50.66 and 1:15.38. Coming into the corner with plenty of stock, Beaute Cachee fought a stubborn horse Sacred Wish down the lane to win by a neck at the finish line.

Third choice on the betting board behind her two stables, Delahaye And Joon’s mother Beaute Cachee ($11.20) completed the 1 1/8-mile course on the hard grass track with a final time of 1:49.63.

Sacred Wish finished second, three-quarters of a length ahead of Delahaye, who moved into third to give trainer Chad Brown a 1-3 finish in the $300,000 Matchmaker. Beaute Cachee marked the trainer’s unprecedented eighth win in the Grade 3 competition.

Beaute Cachee, 5 year old daughter of Literate is enjoying her best season yet for owners Louis Lazzinnaro, Madaket Stables, Michael J. Caruso and Michael Dubb. The mare led from every position to beat the highly rated Godolphin rider English Rose on April 13 in the Jenny Wiley Stakes (G1T) Keeneland in her first start of the year, setting the stage for an ambitious 2024 campaign. She won on the Monmouth turf last year when she won the Violet Stakes.
