Third-crop sire Bayern has been sold to a South Korean eye doctor who is building up a new stallion farm on JeJu Island and is an ardent fan of the multiple grade 1 winner.
Dr. Sangil Choi bought the 10-year-old son of Offlee Wild back in August but waited until the cooler months to have him shipped to South Korea, where he will stand at Choi’s Great Hill Farm starting next year, according to agent Jun Park, who handled the deal.
“Waiting for the hot months to pass before he shipped him shows you how much he cares about the horse,” Park said. “He is very excited to add this stallion to his roster. He was a very big fan while he was racing.”
Bayern, bred in Kentucky by Helen Alexander, won four graded stakes, including the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) and William Hill Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1) in 2014. He compiled a 6-1-3 record from 15 starts and earned $4,454,930.
Bayern entered stud at Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms and has been a top 10 stallion in his sire class from his freshman year through his third-crop year. He has sired seven black-type winners so far, including grade 3 winner Biddy Duke .
“Dr. Choi has a variety of ardour for racing. I believe we’ll see large issues from his farm,” Park stated. Nice Hill Farm additionally stands Dortmund and Flashback .
