Banke, Hancock, Lyster, Walden Elected to BC Board


Breeders’ Cup today announced the election results to its board of directors by members of the Breeders’ Cup. Barbara Banke (Stonestreet Farms), Walker Hancock (Claiborne Farm), Gray Lyster (Ashview Farm), and Elliott Walden (WinStar Farm), each elected to serve four-year terms. Banke, Hancock and Walden were re-elected as directors.

Lyster, elected as a Breeders’ Cup member in 2020, is a breeder, owner, ranch operator and shipper. He co-breed Twinspires.com winner Breeders ‘Cup Sprint (G1) 2015 Runhappy and more recently Ashivew Farm, the Belmont Stakes co-breed presented by NYRA Bets (G1) finished first and second, Mo Donegal and Nest .

Banke, president of Breeders’ Cup, said: “Gray’s extraordinary background and expertise in many facets of the Thoroughbred industry will be a great asset to the board. “We look forward to his advice and recommendations in supporting and enhancing the World Championship and the safety and integrity of our sport.”

Former director Gavin Murphy’s four-year term ends in 2022.

The long-term strategy, the formation and adoption of HISA, and especially the Farmer’s Cup, faced unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. We really appreciate the value he has brought to the Breeders’ Cup and the industry at large. ”
