Backcountry Discovery Routes: The First BDR-X Route and YouTube’s BDR Movie Library



Backcountry Discovery Routes (BDR) has made two announcements for dual and extreme sports riders: new BDR-X routes, to be repeated BDR .-style routesand a free library of BDR documentaries, accessible via YouTube. Backcountry Discovery Routes BDR-X Routes and YouTube Movie Library BDR

Since 2010, the nonprofit Backcountry Discovery Routes (BDR) for adventure motorcycling has created 11 cross-state and regional routes for dual sport and adventure motorcycle touring. Now BDR announces a new concept of shorter BDR-style routes, repeating with the release of the first in the series: Red Desert, WY BDR-X.

BDR-X routes will be developed as excursions out of existing BDR routes or routes in a whole new area known for desirable BDR riding style. The BDR-X will be 300-600 miles long, take just a few days to complete, and be convenient for riders to return to wherever they started their route. Several BDR-X routes have been taken, including PA Wilds BDR-X, set for early fall release, Mountamonds & Desert Alvord, OR BDR-X and Black Hills, planned for SD BDR-X for release in 2023.

About Red Desert BDR-X, WY BDR-X

The first route in this BDR-X series shares the same starting point as the WYBDR and provides a diverse sample of Wyoming’s terrain from the vast area known as the Red Desert. The 149-mile detour begins and ends in the town of Baggs. The route can be completed in one long day or divided into two. Scattered camping is available midway through the route.

Red Desert offers the quality scenery and equestrian techniques of the “National Park”. The area is one of the last high desert ecosystems in North America and is home to the Killpecker Dunes, the largest living dune system in the United States. Riders will enjoy a diverse landscape of sandy beaches, dunes, sage savannahs, mountains and rocky peaks.

If you’re going all the way to WYBDR and are looking for a bit more or are in southern Wyoming looking for an epic but shorter adventure, the Red Desert BDR-X won’t disappoint.

Big news for the ADV community, the BDR organization has just made a library of 11 documentaries about BDR’s expeditions available for free on YouTube. From the first BDR route in Washington to the newest in Wyoming, viewers can see the organization grow from just a few riders and a big idea in 2009 to a respected nonprofit that has become a reality. become a familiar name in today’s ADV community.

The majority of films are shot and directed by renowned ADV filmmaker and BDR co-founder Sterling Noren of Noren Films.

BDR CEO Inna Thorn said it was the organization’s “big goal” to make all BDR titles available to the community for free.

“Now anyone, anywhere in the world with an internet connection, can watch these movies and get inspired to drive a BDR,” says Thorn. “The overwhelming support of our equestrian community and industry partners has made this gift possible. From the very beginning, BDR was envisioned as ‘for the community and for the community.’ It’s imperative that we stay true to our mission of continuously delivering more routes, more resources, and more inspiration to our enthusiasts. “
