Avinash Sable broke the national record in the 3000m hurdles for the 8th time, at the Rabat Diamond League
India’s Avinash Sable broke the national record in the 3000m hurdles with a time of 8.12.48 at the Rabat Diamond League on Sunday.
Finishing fifth in the race in Morocco, Sable overtook Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medalist Benjamin Kigen.
Incidentally, his timing would get him fourth in the Tokyo Olympics.
The 27-year-old is nearly four seconds ahead of his own previous national record (and personal best) of 8.16.21 at the Indian Grand Prix in Thiruvananthapuram in March earlier this year.
His NR pass time in Rabat was the 8th time he’s set the bell tower pass record. He broke it for the first time in 2018 when he hit 8.29.80 at the federal championship to clear the 37-year-old mark then 8.30.88 set by Gopal Saini.

For record-breaker Avinash Sable, the enemy of progress is happiness
Sable recently clocked 13.25.65 in the men’s 5000m at the Sound Running meeting in San Juan Capistrano, USA last month to clear the longest national record in men’s athletics – the 139.70 mark. Bahadur Prasad has held up for 30 years.
The 5000m record – which Sable has won in only his second competitive race on that distance and the third national record to bear his name – is more than any other athlete currently. He also holds a national record in the men’s half marathon as well as a national record in the men’s mountain bike race.
