Auto Bavaria launches the first MINI EV charger in the north – 3x 22 kW AC at Gurney Plaza shopping mall, Penang

Auto Bavaria has unveiled the first MINI-branded electric vehicle (EV) charging facility in the northern region. Located on the sixth floor of Gurney Plaza in Penang, the brightly painted area houses three 22 kW MINI Gen 3 Wall Box units for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

“In 2022, small electricity accounts for more than 30% of MINI models offered by Auto Bavaria Penang, showing the growing demand for electric vehicles in these areas of Malaysia. The new MINI charging facilities at Gurney Plaza aim to support the growing demand for electric vehicles as well as provide greater access to public charging in the northern states,” said Vi Thim Juan, MD of Sime Darby Auto Bavaria said.

“Gurney Plaza is the ideal location for our charging facility as it is a popular shopping mall strategically located in the heart of Penang, enabling electric vehicle owners to charge their vehicles when they go out and shop at the mall.” he added.

“As a responsible company, CapitaLand is committed to running our malls in a sustainable way. We believe that providing more charging stations is the key to more electric vehicle use. This will then help reduce carbon emissions. There are now a total of four EV charging stations, including three from MINI.

Three new charging bays are now open to the public. Hours of operation are from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily.
