Round 4 – Knockhill – Saturday

Bradley Ray won his third race of the 2022 Bennetts British Superbike Championship season, delivering a stunning display at Knockhill to claim the checkered flag in the eBay Sprint before Jason O’Halloran and home team hero Rory Skinner.

Ray set a lap speed record for pole and Rich Energy OMG Racing Yamaha rider Yamaha was determined to get back on track after fighting back from a collision yesterday.

Ray got off to a good start and despite initial pressure from the chasing group, he kept the composure to disrupt his opponents and extend his lead on the championship standings.

“It’s a bit of a weird race for me to be fair; I started from the very beginning and I didn’t plan to lead from start to finish! I just wanted to get my head up in the air and do it fairly consistently for the first few laps and I set a pace that I’m comfortable with and I don’t feel close to the limit. I got to about lap 12 and I pulled about 0.5s and I think it’s time to make some distance if I can. I manage to do some strong laps and that means I can pull a little bit of distance. I am very pleased with the bike, especially after the short period of time after missing the test and yesterday’s crash. I can say that this is my best win of the season so far because of that; others passed the test and I only got five laps yesterday so I only have today to get up to speed today. I am over the moon to bring home the victory for Rich Energy OMG Racing Yamaha. ”

The battle for final podium spots was intense as O’Halloran plunged to second in the opening round against Skinner and Danny Buchan, who split Cheshire Moldings teammates FS-3 Kawasaki.

Kyle Ryde was also present in the fight early in the race, but Skinner immediately attacked and got ahead of McAMS Yamaha on the second lap.

The Australian fought back and quickly regained his place as Ryde then surged to third place ahead of team-mates Team Green as Skinner and Lee Jackson attempted to regain position.

Skinner was determined and with six laps remaining he took back third but O’Halloran overcame a small gap in second and he will hold it through to the finish line.

Skinner’s third place isn’t safe; he is under intense pressure from his teammates as he continues to switch places with Jackson in the final rounds. It was the local contender, however, who returned to the podium for the first time since the season opener, taking a tough third place ahead of Jackson.

Danny Buchan overtook Ryde for fifth place while Glenn Irwin held off Tommy Bridewell in seventh.

“That was our best finish here on Honda in 7th place, and it’s been a good weekend so far. In Qualifiers it went a little wrong, I had a little laugh at the beginning of the session and in the moment around I saw that we had front row speed, but it didn’t go together today. Now this falls on me, I wish I could blame someone else but I can’t! I go into the race with optimism, I feel pretty good but we are lacking a bit of side grip, so maybe switching to drive grip as we spin can continue. It’s an area where we know we need to improve in the long term, but I’m confident we can do it. Obviously we want to be on the podium in every race, so that can be really difficult. But, if we continue to take steps forward, I believe we can get back there.”

Storm Stacey has had the best result of the season so far in 9th place for Team Euro Car Parts Kawasaki as Josh Brookes finished the top 10.

“The race was a bit frustrating because I lost a few places in the early stages and that meant I had to go into a battle with my teammates, which is always difficult because we’re at the top. a machine. I didn’t want to make any reckless passes and take us both down, but lap times weren’t close to what we needed to do to get to the podium. So I’m a bit disappointed but I know after qualifying we might have a hard time but I’m always optimistic. We’ve looked at what we can change for tomorrow’s two races and hopefully we can improve.”

Defending champion Tarran Mackenzie had to sit out the eBay Sprint after a high-speed crash during the opening stages of the Afternoon Qualifiers.

British Suposystem 1000

South Australia’s Billy McConnell is back on the top step of the podium as he advances to his second win of the season after also taking pole position at Knockhill.

The Australian led Richard Kerr in round 14 of the 24-round battle and was able to keep it to the end as he led compatriot Brayden Elliott across the line with more than half a second in hand.

Tom Ward led by Aprilia finished third, as original frontman Kerr had to finish fourth ahead of FHO Racing with Kobelco’s Alex Olsen, who finished fifth.

British Supersport / GP2 Race One

Jack Kennedy extended his lead in the championship as he headed for another win in Knockhill’s Sprint.

The Mar-Train Racing racer put on an 18-lap race full of effort, winning 4.193 seconds over Gearlink Kawasaki’s Luke Stapleford.

Third was Harry Truelove, who led Bradley Perie on his Appleyard Macadam team by more than a second while Jamie Perrin was fifth.

New Zealand’s Damon Rees is the tenth Supersport factory.

In GP2, Korie McGreevy was once again at her own level, finishing sixth overall and seconds ahead of Cameron Rees’ last GP2 machine, finishing 12th overall just one place ahead of the former driver. BSB in third place is Barry Burrell. on Kramer.

National Junior Supersystems Race One

Franco Bourne won by more than 4 seconds against Max Cook to celebrate his second win of the season.

Cook, who dropped to fourth after hitting neutral wrongly in the race, fought back to second as Louis Valleley finished third.

The fourth driver to go home was Seth Crump while fellow countryman Jacob Hatch won P14.

Race for a British Talent Cup

1 race at Knockhill boils down to a showdown between Evan Belford back (City Lifting by RS Racing) and Sullivan Mounsey (Wilson Racing / J & S Accessories) on Saturday – with No 52 just able to take the lead in the lap. Race to the end and secure the first win of the season. Local driver Troy Jeffrey (ThorneyCroft56 Racing) impressed by finishing the podium at home in Scotland, edging past Bailey Stuart-Campbell (Team 151s / Lextek) in under a second by the flag.

Drama is twice as important, however, as Johnny Garness (MLav VisionTrack Academy) is initially clear with more than three seconds in hand before slipping out, seemingly for teammate and closest opponent for the crown, Carter Brown, an opportunity to close. All in all, disaster for Garness and bad luck for Brown combined leave the two split by the same margin heading into Sunday… but now Veijer has taken second place.
