Next patch for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a big: big 78GB. Ubisoft today announced that next week’s “will” patch will require players to re-download the entire game as part of a data reconstruction process. “The entire base game, fully re-downloaded. At least for a good reason. This should make the game load faster and run better in general, which is a nice change to the game. there’s still momentum to deliver a year after launch, but it might not be such good news if you’re on slow, clogged, or metered connections.
“The upcoming title update merges the game files, resulting in a smaller overall game size across all platforms,” Ubisoft explained in notice. “In addition, performance will improve with this data refactoring, with faster screen load times, improved world data flow, and overall runtime performance.”
So download from 1.4.0 to 1.4.1 is 78GB on PC. Once installed, the entire game will take up 77GB, and Ubisoft says you’ll save 34GB. And get other perks. Different numbers for console versions and different languages, obv.
The update is due next week. As someone with a good Internet connection, 78GB isn’t too big of a download for me. I can take that. That will happily be highlighted in the background while I’m working. But for some people, 78GB is not only slow, but also expensive.
Ubisoft explained that the refactoring is part of their plan to “continue to support Assassin’s Creed Valhalla with future game and content updates”, so I guess that holds promise as well. But again, big download. The latest big addition is Valhalla Discovery Tour, a unique experience just like they’ve released for the last few AssCreed games, this time with more guided playable missions.
