ASBK 2022 – Round 6 – Phillip Island
With several graduates leaving this category, including 2021 Champion Broc Pearson plus fellow top contenders Max Stauffer and Tom Edwards, the 2022 season has been wide open in terms of heirs .
First-round winner Senna Agius is always overseas (and the recent top 10 in Moto2 shows his class), so his cameo, plus Tom Edwards’ second place, really made it. we don’t know who will be the Beater in 2022.
Defending Dunlop Supersport 300 Champ Ben Baker bowed due to injury, compatriot Olly Simpson also withdrew, and Tom Edwards was disqualified due to a technical error, after which John Lytras will continue to play.
And while the helm of Michelin Supersport may have fallen to Lytras, it’s a position he loved and grew up in.
A useful double win at Wakefield Park saw Lytras truly take the lead of the season but any plans to win the championship early were brought back to life by an electrical failure at Morgan Park that put him on hold. I got stuck many times in race one, due to not restarting my Yamaha. , but still scored eight points in trying situations.
Winning race number two at Morgan Park returned him to the Championship lead and now Lytras (151 points) has a small six-point advantage advancing into the final two laps from a advancing Ty Lynch. set, (145 points). Scott Nicholson is third with 115 points.
At Phillip Island in February for round one, Lynch beat Lytras by 9 points at the weekend. With the top contenders from round one out of this competition, it will be a pivotal point in the championship race ahead of the finale at The Bend next weekend. It’s also possible that there were some spoilers in the field that split that matchup and messed up the championship.

It’s been a year where the ASBK management has more control over the technical rules than ever before. This has seen many drivers and teams removed from official classification due to technical infractions, a game-changer in terms of results and opponents.
After the first round was over, several riders were penalized and that led Henry Snell to then take the lead in the Championship.
In the second round, another top contestant was disqualified for violating technical regulations. Snell did not win a race and was only on the podium in the final race of the weekend. Luckily for the Championship leader, the win and points were split evenly among the top five and great Snell came out of the second round with an increased lead
Cameron Dunker, in the third round, proved that his previous wins were not by luck. A perfect weekend in the mainstay plus three wins, put him on 76 max points and rose to the top of the Championship.
Former leader Snell was usable but not dominant, and as a result he dropped from first place to fourth place overall. James Jacobs and Glenn Nelson finished second and third with a three-point lead from second to fourth.
A revived Taiyo Aksu took pole and two fifth-round wins at Morgan Park in a near-flawless performance. Oceania Junior Cup Series 2021 champion Cameron Swain stands tall, winning this ever fiercely competitive tournament. Henry Snell watched his championship hopes fade, scoring a low 11 points, while Cameron Dunker – who was not on the podium all week – managed to exit Morgan Park with a Championship lead The enemy is still his.
Currently, it is impossible to predict who the Champion will be. While Dunker has an undeniable 29-point lead, the DNF or another poor scoring weekend could see the now hot Glenn Nelson or Aksu move closer to the lead. There are many races to go before this championship is decided.
