ASBK season preview, schedule and entry list

ASBK 2023
Round one – Phillip Island

Josh Waters set a new lap record on his first outing at Phillip Island in a McMartin Racing Ducati last year and since then, the 36-year-old has also lowered the record at Sydney Motorsports Park.

Looking forward to the opening round of the 2023 ASBK season, which will be held alongside the opening round of the 2023 FIM Superbike World Championship at Phillip Island on the weekend of February 24th to 26th, so to speak Water The start of the 2023 season is the most favorite.

Cru Halliday and Mike Jones of Team Yamaha were not left behind at the SMP Test. Halliday has some team and attitude changes to the new season and has always gone smoothly at Phillip Island, while Jones will want a successful start to defending his title.

Penrite Honda’s Troy Herfoss is in a better position for the season starting this year than when he was here 12 months ago. In pre-season form, Herf’ has declared him a championship contender.

Broc Pearson is in charge of DesmoSport Ducati this new season and is preparing better than ever.

Glenn Allerton will also lead the starting blocks but for this season’s opener in a BMW Kinderis, as he awaits the arrival of the new Ducati V4 R he will use to compete for the rest of the race. championship.

Lachlan Epis has shown great speed during recent outings at SMP in an ESG BMW and it will be interesting to see what he can bring to Phillip Island. How will his Dunlops stand up to what is usually Pirelli’s dominance at ASBK in recent times?

Bryan Staring will be excited when he makes his ASBK debut with the Yamaha MotoGP team. Staring had some limited time on the bike but tested at Phillip Island and then fixed some more recent bugs in the St. George at SMP. And he won his first DesmoSport Ducati here last year… How well prepared were they to get that MotoGo Yamaha for this season…?

Arthur Sissis had some issues holding him back on the recent ASBK Test but hopefully those are resolved from UniTech Yamaha before he heads to Phillip Island. If the bike gets the job done then we know that Arthur can bring podium speed to the race…

GTR Motostars’ Max Stauffer started his second season in the top tier and has made a number of leaps and bounds over the past few months. Given his recent form, young Max could be at top speed this season. Whether he can do it at Phillip Island, we’ll find out in a few weeks!

Mark Chiodo is using the Fireblade this season and has been in good form recently testing at Phillip Island.

After a two-year absence from the Australian Superbike circuit, former 2017 Australian Supersport champion Ted Collins is back in Livson Racing’s BMW M1000RR.

Then we have Matt Walters launching the RSV4 Aprilia which will be in pretty standard form minus some suspension and suspension changes.

Sports ASBK

Top three in ASBK Supersport 2022; Johnny Lytras, Ty Lynch and Tom Bramich all returned for another season at number 600.

A serious breakdown for Lytras during pre-season testing caused the defending champion to start on the back foot.

In recent testing, Lynch didn’t hit the pace we’ve seen in him in 2022.

Bramich entered the season with good support behind and is picking up pace again after returning to the setup-related drawing board during pre-season testing.

After a long hiatus from top level competition, Sean Condon has announced that he has successfully returned to the SMP Test. Only Condon can get anywhere close to the set pace by returning to the international Harrison Voight in the recent test, and Condon’s entry will shake up the Supersport field.

The clear favorite in the Supersport rankings at Phillip Island will be Harrison Voight. The 16-year-old dominated at The Bend season finale, dominating the test and will aim to leave Phillip Island with a new domestic Supersport lap record in his pocket before he heads to Europe to attend. FIM Moto2 European Championship.

Luckily for the rest, Voight will likely only compete in the season opener and season finale, though a pause in his European commitments mid-year could also open the door. giving him the ability to get into another round or two.

Cameron Dunker, who made the double in 2022 by winning not only the Australian Supersport 300 Championship but also the Yamaha R3 Trophy, will be a watcher as he gets used to the speed at which a car 600 can rally around Phillip Island quickly-out.

Then we have the likes of Ben Baker, Jake Farnsworth, Jack Favelle, Glenn and Hayden Nelson, Olly and Mitchell Simpson, all aiming to make their mark. There are also others capable of scoring on the podium.

Dallas Skeer was unable to participate in the round after a recent testing incident and is awaiting medical examination.
