Are Dogs Allowed in the Line & Line Store?
Dogs are allowed in MANY Field & Stream stores–but there is no company-wide pet policy. You need to call your local store and ask if your dog is welcome to go shopping with you.
Call your local store (there is a store locator online to find the one closest to you) to see if your store is dog-friendly. The Dick’s Sporting Goods subsidiary has about 17 stores, mainly in the Eastern states but also in Texas.
Shop with your dog
During my trips to Field & Stream with Barli (at the Cedar Park, Texas location), the staff have been very welcoming; One person told me that many dogs come for training in the store.
The stores are all large – so they are a good “mid-tier” store for dogs who have had some exposure to small-store shopping and are ready to take it to the next level. They are not as noisy as home improvement stores like by Lowe or warehouse at homewhich we consider “advanced” shopping.
Along with the usual display shops, the Field & Stream stores feature mounted animals, which was a good learning experience for Barli, who was a bit surprised when he first saw them.
He’s also a little unsure about this armed, headless dummy!
I brought Barli to our store after he had gone for a long walk and felt comfortable. The key to having a good time shopping with your dog—and making sure the dog-friendly stores are EXTREMELY dog-friendly—is to take a few extra steps before and during the tour. your shopping.
Before your trip
- Pack a leash no longer than 6 feet.
- Leave the retractable leash at home.
- Pack a cleanup kit in case of a potty accident.
- Consider off-peak times for your first visit.
During your trip
- Stop the potty before entering the store. Even if your dog pees before he leaves the house, take a few minutes to visit the trees in the parking lot.
- Keep your dog close. For the safety of both your dog and other shoppers, leave your dog with you when shopping.
- Get any accident immediately.
Can service dogs go to the scene and stream?
Yes, the trained service dog needed to assist you is allowed into any Field & Stream store—even those that aren’t dog-friendly—according to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA):
“Service animals are defined as dogs that are specifically trained to work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Examples of such jobs or duties include instructing the blind, warning the deaf, pulling wheelchairs, warning and protecting people who are having a seizure, reminding the mentally ill to take their prescription medication, and people with nervous tension. Traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) during an anxiety attack, or performing other tasks. Service animals are working animals, not pets. The work or task the dog has been trained to perform must be directly related to the person’s disability. Dogs whose sole function is comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.” — Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Please note that this applies ONLY to trained service dogs; it does Not including emotional support dogs.
If your dog is not a trained service dog, do not try to misrepresent your dog as a service dog. Depending on where you live, misrepresent your dog as a service dog can be fined up to $1000.
