Apollo Hospital expands access to AI decision support

Doctors across India can now access AI clinical decision support from Apollo Hospital.

Last year, the hospital chain launched the Apollo Clinical Intelligence Engine (CIE), a self-learning tool that analyzes symptoms, identifies causes, and helps recommend the best course of action.

The technology, built, maintained and periodically reviewed by an internal team of more than 500 Apollo doctors and specialists, is capable of analyzing huge amounts of data – it currently covers more than 1,300 conditions and 800 symptoms in its vocabulary – to help identify patterns that can be missed with manual diagnosis.

Built using four decades’ worth of hospital data, CIE is touted as one of the largest connected health data lakes in the world. The platform is also catching up with developments in the medical field – in 2022 alone, the platform reviewed more than 600,000 findings from clinical studies published that year.

Designed specifically for the people of South Asia, CIE is now available to physicians outside of Apollo Hospitals through the Apollo 24|7 platform.

WHY IT IMPORTANT

The decision to open CIE to doctors outside of Apollo Hospital came as it immediately realized “tangible improvements” in diagnosis, physician productivity and patient satisfaction post-launch. a few months ago.

According to Sangita Reddy, joint chief operating officer, more than 4,000 Apollo physicians have seen a “significant impact on their diagnostic results” using the technology, which has also become part of its operations. their usual OPD behavior.

“CIE cannot just be limited to Apollo but needs to be shared with doctors all over India. Therefore, I am happy to make CIE Apollo available to every qualified, practicing physician in India. I am sure. It is certain that together, we will be able to make Indians healthier through more timely and accurate diagnosis regardless of geographic, regional or income divisions,” said Apollo Hospital President, Dr. Prathap C. Reddy said.

TREND TO BIGGER

CIE is one of the latest innovations in medical AI that Apollo Hospitals has been working on in recent years. In 2021, the hospital chain announced Apollo Cardiovascular Disease Risk Tool, developed using 10 years of patient data. This AI engine has been integrated with ConnectedLife’s platform, allowing it to provide near-real-time, continuous, vertical health and wellness data.

The hospital chain has also ventured into using mixed reality technology to improve patient education. Last year, it launched Apollo ProHealthDeepX uses Microsoft HoloLens 2 to show how a patient’s risk factors for CVD affect their heart through mixed reality. It also creates their cardiac risk scores using the same AI CVD risk instrument.
