Samsung Medical Center achieves DIAM and EMRAM Phase 7

Samsung Medical Center has achieved major milestones in digital transformation as it has been validated at the highest stages of both the HIMSS Digital Imaging Adoption Model and the Adoption Model electronic medical records.

It is the world’s first healthcare provider to reach Stage 7 in DIAM.

DIAM measures an organization’s ability to provide medical imaging while EMRAM measures their adoption and refinement of EMR.

WHY IT IMPORTANT

During DIAM Phase 7 validation, HIMSS acknowledged SMC as a “world leader” in digital pathology. “This is the most comprehensive use of integrated digital pathology we have ever seen,” said Andrew Pearce, VP Analytics and Head of Global Consulting at HIMSS.

The organization noted the “excellent” use of structured reporting in a variety of disciplines and SMC’s “unique” approach to CDS for radiographic examination. The hospital was also praised for its use of AI in identifying patients who needed urgent medical care during the peak of the pandemic, and for its implementation of a text analyzer to ensure regular endoscopy. .

HIMSS expects SMC to continually scale its image analysis projects “to larger sample sizes with powerful results measurement capabilities using technology and comparisons with previous cases when this technology is not applicable.”

Meanwhile, during the EMRAM Phase 7 validation, HIMSS was impressed with the many improvements SMC made on some of the examples it saw in the hospital. Accreditation phase 6. These innovations include the use of chemotherapy delivery robots to ensure accuracy and safety in the delivery of mixed chemotherapy preparations and the use of robots round-the-clock supply to maintain hospital stock.

SMC was also commended for its use of AI, such as the advanced rule engine MEWS and another for pressure sore monitoring and management, which made “excellent” use of the extensive database. to influence clinical practice.

It was also commended for using “groundbreaking” predictive modeling through its Data-driven Operations and Communications Hub to optimize medical staffing and resource allocation.

“All of these and other use cases are strengthening SMC’s position as an advanced smart hospital and a worldwide leader in using technology to improve outcomes and care delivery”.

According to HIMSS, where SMC can improve its EMR system from this point forward includes proactively seeking feedback and patient engagement to take its patient engagement strategy “to the next level.” new high”; apply user-centered design principles to enhance user experience; and introduced a secure messaging system for inpatients.

TREND TO BIGGER

Following these validations, SMC became a HIMSS Stage 7 Digital Maturity Model certified hospital, adding to HIMSS Phase 7 Recognition of the infrastructure adoption model last year. It immediately went into action to achieve these certifications a few months after passing both EMRAM and DIAM Stage 6.

SMC also recently underwent an evaluation for HIMSS . Digital Health Indicator where it tops all global health systems in 2022 with a score of 365/400.

ON PROFILE

Jean-Hyoung Lee, director of IT Infrastructure at SMC, shared his thoughts on the Phase 7 DIAM validation process:”[Becoming] The first hospital in the world to reach DIAM Phase 7 means a lot to us. It [shows] that our medical imaging information management system is fully compliant with international standards and used effectively with the patient’s health as the top priority.”

“[This achievement] will set the standard for other hospitals to follow and demonstrate SMC’s leadership in digital imaging adoption and integration.”

“Overall, this certification process is a very positive development that takes digital innovation a step further and shows SMC’s dedication to using digital technology to achieve success. and business growth.”

Upon reaching EMRAM Stage 7, Sang-Seob Lee, SMC’s IT CEO, said, “The EMRAM validation is very important to SMC as it demonstrates our commitment to service delivery. providing high-quality patient care and using technology to enhance our healthcare offerings.”

“The certification process involved rigorous evaluation of our DARWIN EMR system and achieving Stage 7 is strong evidence of the excellence of the system and the hard work of the entire team. ours.”

After these latest digital maturity confirmations, Seungho Lim, director of IT Planning at SMC, shared some of their future plans: “Our goal is to realize a Globally advanced smart hospital through digital health innovation To achieve this, we will build on the strong foundation of the foundation established by HIMSS certifications and provide services Hyper-distance digital service, prioritizing contactless communication and cutting-edge technology for core patient care operations to maximize quality of care and patient safety. patients before and after treatment.”

“To further enhance our capabilities, we plan to pursue additional certifications such as AMAM for [our] data analysis system to reach Stage 7 level.”

“As we strive to be at the forefront of digital health innovation, we continually design new digital services and build information systems that meet the global standards set by HIMSS.”
