LOS ANGELES – Actress Anne Heche died of her injuries from a fiery car crash, a spokeswoman said Sunday. She is 53 years old.
Holly Baird, a spokesman for the Heche family, said: “Anne Heche is unharmed.
The announcement came two days after Heche declared brain dead suffered a traumatic brain injury and severe burns after speeding and crashing his vehicle into a house in the Mar Vista residential area last Friday, Aug. 5. Heche was pulled out of the vehicle when the building caught fire. . She was taken to the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital in Los Angeles.
Heche was on life support in case her organs could be donated.
Actress known for her roles in 1990s films such as VolcanoGus Van Sant remake Psycho, Donnie Brasco and Six days, seven nights.
She started her career as a good and evil twin on the daytime drama Another world, for which she won a Daytime Emmy Award in 1991.
But it was her personal life that led to perhaps even greater fame. Heche became a lesbian icon due to her close relationship with comedian and TV presenter Ellen DeGeneres in the late 1990s.
Heche admits that love affairs affected her careersays that her relationship with DeGeneres led to her being fired from a multimillion-dollar filmmaking deal, and that she hasn’t worked on a set in a decade.
But that relationship led to broader public acceptance of single-sex partnerships.
Heche was born in 1969 in Aurora, Ohio, the youngest of five children. She had a challenging childhood. The family moves around a lot. She said that she believes her father, Donald, is a reclusive gay man; he died in 1983 of HIV.
In her 2001 Memoir Call me Crazyand in later interviews, Heche said her father sexually abused her as a child, causing mental health problems that the actress said she carried with her for decades when mature.
