La Nina usually happens one by one.
Sometimes, like this year, two incidents happen in a row.
But it looks like we’ve experienced an unusual three La Nina dips, with cold water occurring three times in a row.
Right now, the Climate Prediction Center gives more than a 50% chance of a tripling (see below), and some of the latest models running agree.
In my podcast (see listening information below), I will discuss the situation and the impact of another La Nina year on the Northwest and California.
But there’s more than that.
A very wet period is ahead of western Oregon, with the rest of the region having parts of the wet action. The forecast for cumulative precipitation for the area for the next week is surprising, with 3 inches or more in the mountains (see below).
This is a LOT for May. And wheat farmers in southeastern Washington will get even more welcome rainfall.
