After 14 failed adoptions, #15 is the perfect match for Ronald!

Shelters and rescues work hard to ensure adoptable dogs get to the best homes possible. But the first potential adopters aren’t always the best fit for one reason or another. A large puppy named Ronald quickly realized that after 14 of his adoptions failed.

Ronald’s failed adoption is not personal. Families chose to overtake him because of his size and energy levels. Of course, he’s disappointed, but he knows he’d rather wait for his perfect family than get the wrong adopter. Fortunately, his patience is well worth it!

14 failed adoptions

Ronald is a young, adorable 63-pound dog in Wake County SPCA. However, luck was not on his side because of his size. He has a big body and is very strong, so if he jumps, he can knock people over. He also tends to be a bit talkative because he’s still a puppy. For those reasons, he needs a family that is willing to train patiently and not be intimidated by his size.

So the shelter made a post sharing Ronald’s unfortunate experiences and they encouraged people to adopt him. They know that people will find it hard to resist his adorable puppy face.

“Help us break Ronald’s bad luck! 14 adoptions have failed for this lovely guy — mostly because he’s too big/strong. It’s true, he’s a big boy! But for his massive frame, he weighs only 63 lbs. Ronald knows his orders, is extremely gentle and 100% sweet. He really is a very good boy,” the Wake County SPCA wrote.

As that post went viral, Ronald’s fortunes changed for the better. Many people have been contacted with adoption requests, so the shelter knows that at least one of them must be a perfect fit for Ronald.

The 15th time is a charm!

A few days later, the shelter announced that Ronald’s unlucky streak was over and that he had found his forever family. SPCA has shared photos of Ronald with his new self and he looks happier than ever. His family says he is doing great with the kids and everyone is obsessed with him. Looks like this is the last adoption that will stick.

“Thank you all so much for sharing Ronald’s story — we are deeply moved by your words of encouragement and your generous offer of help. On the first day, your generous share helped Ronald reach nearly a million people. Just like that, overnight, his whole world changed. We never cease to be amazed at the power you all have to change lives with the power of your keyboard!” shelter wrote.

However, Ronald is just one of many dogs at the shelter looking for owners. Employees say they have acceptable dogs of all sizes, ages and energy levels, including 3-year-old Siri, who has been trying to find a family for 400 days.
