Adrien Broner has been extremely inactive for the past few years. But that hasn’t stopped some of the top names in heavyweight from calling him out.
Among a long list of boxers poking fun at and Broner daring to face them in the ring, is Conor Benn, who promises to weigh as much as 147 pounds.
Slowly but steadily, the 25-year-old, nicknamed “The Terminator,” has raised his competitive edge in several appearances in the ring. In particular, in 2021, the English-born player created his best year yet.
To start his pugilistic campaign, Benn quickly knocked out Samuel Vargas, stopping him in the first round. To close out his year, Benn scored a one-way decisive goal against Adrian Granados before registering a fourth-round knockout victory over Chris Algieri.
Desperate to confront a more notable name, Benn revealed that he would be willing to go anywhere to face Broner in America. In an effort to help facilitate the aforementioned challenge, Benn’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that he contacted the Broner team with an offer but was ultimately turned down. .
Though Broner remained unnoticed, he had a few choice words for Benn and his enduring appeals.
“F*ck buddy,” Broner told Behind The Gloves. “He broke.”
Despite winning world titles in four separate weight classes, Broner struggled to get to the winning column through the end of the year. In the past four matches, Broner has only lost 1-2-1. In addition to his less than stellar record, Broner has been separated on the sidelines. Broner fought just once in both 2018 and 2019, settling for a decisive majority draw against Jessie Vargas and a decisive defeat widely at the hands of Manny Pacquiao.
Broner failed to enter the ring in 2020 but returned to action in 2021, scoring a controversial unanimous decision goal against journeyman Jovanie Santiago in February 2021.
