AI Actions and Face Retouching
AI software and features have become an important part of the photography industry. I use some kind of AI software for my workflow. This is because many long, complex processes can be quickly handled by AI software to a degree comparable to what an expert can achieve manually. The latest software from ACDSee includes several new updates, including AI Actions and AI Face Edit.
Action AI
This can be one of the more useful features of the software. ACDSee now offers several AI features in the AI Actions tab that are sure to impress and improve the workflow.
In the Edit panel, there is a tab called AI Actions. This is where you will find options like Remove Background, Choose Theme, Blur Background, Black & White Background, and Select Sky. These are all self explanatory and do exactly what they suggest. In the photo below you can see how the object is correctly selected from the background. This is despite the fact that some parts of the background are in focus and out of focus. It’s impressive to see how well the software can organize information in an image.
Another useful feature is the ability to quickly select the sky in the image. In the image below, you’ll notice how the software was able to quickly pick out the sky from the rest of the scene. And this is literally with just one click. With the image below, the scene is relatively complete, especially when considering the colors of some of the buildings. For example, the tall building in the middle of the scene had certain parts that were quite difficult to separate from the sky, however the software had no problem selecting the sky through the buildings.
The benefit of this feature is that you can quickly select the sky in the image and make local adjustments. The sky in any particular scene can sometimes make or break an image, and this feature will eventually become one of the more powerful features for many landscape and ant photographers. bamboo.
AI Face Editing
Switching to the AI Face Correction tool, found at the top left of the software, you’ll notice a ton of features available to help you retouch your portraits. Clicking this option will open a new section in the software that allows you to make many edits. These features are similar to the liquefaction feature found in other software; however, they are more detailed with how much you can edit.
For instance, you can not only edit someone’s face shape, but you can also change their makeup, whiten teeth, and adjust their eyebrows. For this feature, I recommend using a subtle operation, because you can easily get caught up in things.
However, the results can be strong considering how much you can adjust in your portrait shots. Makeovers can be one of the software’s more useful features. Having the ability to edit things like eyeshadow, lip color, and saturation is extremely helpful.
Obviously I went a little too far with my edits in the image above; however, that is simply to illustrate a point about how much of an impact this section can have on your portraits.
Photomerge and Panoramas
The ability to create panoramas and merge photos together is important to many photographers. This is especially true for landscape and architecture photographers. In my experience, there have been many times when a lens simply wasn’t wide enough and multiple shots were needed to create the final composition. Also, sometimes it’s better to have extra resolution if you’re going to be printing large images. Stitching images together is a great way to get around low resolution sensors.
Now, of course, taking pictures is one thing. However, post-production software requires good and stable features that allow you to stitch images together. This is where the new Photomerge and panorama feature comes in.
In the Manage tab, simply select the images you want to stitch together, right-click your mouse, scroll through “Processing” and select Panorama. The software will automatically combine the files that you have captured to capture the panorama, and the results are amazing.
Other features included in the software are the ability to create focus stacked images and HDR images. Focus stacking allows you to add depth of field to any photo by stitching together multiple images taken at different focus points. This is often useful when taking product photos, where a greater depth of field is preferred.
Interestingly, some landscape photographers also focus their images at a relatively wider aperture. This helps to produce the sharpest and most detailed images compared to a single shot.
Finally, with HDR, you have the ability to overlay multiple photos taken with different exposure settings. This expands the dynamic range of any given scene. Even the best cameras can have trouble capturing details effectively in extreme conditions. This is where HDR fusion comes in handy.
Again, the process is simple: you choose the files you want to stack and merge, choose options, and the software will automatically do the processes.
While this feature may not be new, having it in the latest suite provides additional value for advertising. It helps with the workflow because you don’t have to jump back and forth between multiple pieces of software.
If you are an architectural photographer, then the shape selection tool is definitely a very interesting one. With a lot of software, it’s often a lot easier to select objects with straight edges than it is to select curved or rounded objects. The shape selector in ACDSee 2023 allows you to select curved and circular objects quickly with its dual selection system.
You can first apply a rough selection around the object using the square selection tool. Once this is done, you can use the circular selection tool, which helps you refine the selection by applying curved movements.
This feature may not seem like a new exciting AI-based thing, however, it is capable of supporting an expert’s workflow more than most. This helps professional photographers quickly and accurately select complex subjects in a scene. That makes it one of the more useful updates in the latest version of ACDSee Ultimate 2023.
Final thoughts
Every year, ACDSee works hard to create software that pushes boundaries. The latest version includes a host of new features that bring incredible value to advertising. The AI features alone help the software stand out from the crowd, because they offer something not really available elsewhere.
