There was some controversy even before Prestigious truck centers support A4DE was conducted at Erica (VIC) yesterday morning!
Simford Husqvarna driver Andrew Wilksch appeared to have waved into the timed area to check the transponder then was later deemed by officials to have entered the area too early. Jury penalties and controversies are generally equal for the course at A4DE, and with this being the first event in years, both the drivers and some of the less experienced officials can caught at different times with rules and regulations surrounding the event. The penalty certainly delighted Wilksch as he gave the Simford Husqvarna FE501 the full lead. However, after the one-minute penalty was applied, Wilksch dropped to sixth in the standings outright, and to third in E3.
Kyron Bacon continued from his dazzling AORC form to finish second behind Wilksch on his first day on the ground, but the young Tasmanian was later fully promoted due to Wilksch’s penalty.
Hence bacon led the event completely at the end of the first day on the ShopYamaha Off Road Racing WR250F ahead of teammate Josh Green mounted the WR450F. That of course also makes the Yamaha duo the respective leaders in the E1 and E2 categories.
Todd Waters is third on the Husqvarna FE450, and second in E2 behind Green.
Stefan Granquist led the large E3 category on the KTM 500 EXC-F and also placed 4th overall.
Final fifth and top two-stroke honors on opening day went to Thomas Mason in the GASGAS MC250. In the transition from 250 motocrosser to dust blower, Mason’s machine has benefited from the 300 set and is now ranked second in the E3 category behind the Granquist 500 EXC-F.
Blake Hollis and Jeremy Carpentier finished seventh and eighth respectively, making it the three WR250Fs in the current top ten.
Fraser Higlett finished ninth on the Beta 430 RR Racing track while Kessner Motorcycles’ Cooper Sheidow broke into the top 10 on the KTM 250 XC-F to prove he has what it takes to run with the big boys.
