A stray senior dog turns into a mischievous puppy after being rescued

For the past seven months, an elderly stray dog has survived by foraging and sleeping in a truck yard near a busy California highway.

The security guards who started feeding the poor old dog made contact Hope For Paws for help. Eldad, the founder of the animal rescue organization, and his colleague JoAnn Wiltz immediately went to find the senior dog. They found him fast asleep on a pile of tree branches.

They were told that the dog was deaf and that it was in their favor to catch it. Eldad was able to sneak up and place the trap gently around the dog’s head before he even realized it was there.

Akita’s sweet mix didn’t try to run away and tried to eat the hamburger that was given to him. JoAnn noticed he was missing teeth and broke the hamburger, so it was easier for him to eat.

Eldad made sure to spend time with the boy and often pet him to let him know he was safe. “After seven months of living there, it was important to take an extra seven minutes for him to feel safe and loved,” he said.

The senior dog was carefully led into a crate and taken to a veterinary clinic to be examined. Those who watched the rescue named him “Mr. Rogers”.

The first thing they did was scan the microchip, but he didn’t have one. He appears to be about 8 years old and in good health.

It turned out that he was not deaf, but was suffering from a treated ear infection. Mr. Rogers was placed in foster care by the Hollywood Huskies until they found him a permanent home.

The shy and sad dog has turned into a playful puppy inside his loving foster home. It doesn’t stop wagging its tail and loves to play in its backyard. JoAnn visited him a few weeks after the rescue and brought him a squeaky toy that he loved.
