The Geely EX5 debuted in Frankfurt, Germany as the Chinese manufacturer’s electric SUV for the global market, which was launched in China last month as the Geely Galaxy E5Itself was developed together with Proton eMas 7 twin.

“The EX5 is designed to be a top contender in the most competitive segment. With more space, better driving dynamics and an improved driving experience,” said Geely Holding Group Senior Vice President Victor Yang at Automechanika Frankfurt 2024, where the EX5 made its European debut.

The EX5 will soon be introduced in Thailand, Indonesia, Norway, Australia and other markets, the company said, confirming that the electric SUV will be sold in neighboring countries as the Geely, not the Proton eMas 7.

The EX5 is a twin version of the Galaxy E5 – and by extension, the Proton eMas 7 – built on the manufacturer’s GEA architecture, and the Galaxy E5 measures 4,615mm long, 1,901mm wide and 1,670mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,750mm. According to the company, the Geely EX5 is said to have a drag coefficient of 0.269.

Similarities between the EX5 and the Galaxy E5 can be seen in the powertrain, which consists of a single front-mounted drive motor producing 218 PS and 320 Nm of torque, for a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 6.9 seconds.

The Geely EX5 is equipped with the manufacturer’s latest ‘short blade’ battery, which indicates Aegis ‘short blade’ lithium iron phosphate battery Developed to improve safety, charge cycle life, fast charging capability and low temperature performance.

With the Galaxy E5, the Aegis battery is specified in two capacities – a 49.52 kWh option that allows the car to travel 440 km on a full charge and a 60.22 kWh option that allows the car to travel up to 530 km (both according to China’s domestic CLTC testing standards).

Inside, the Geely EX5 is equipped with a 10.2-inch instrument cluster display and a 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, with the infotainment running on the company’s self-developed Flyme Auto operating system, co-developed with Meizu. The output sound is emitted from the 16-speaker sound system of Flyme Audio.

With the Galaxy E5 version, this electric SUV has 33 storage compartments that the company advertises as the best in the segment, including drawers under the rear air-conditioning vents and another drawer under the rear seat.

Meanwhile, for the Proton equivalent, the eMas 7 is under development. along with its Geely versionhelps simplify the transition to right-hand drive vehicles and brings many benefits in terms of efficiency, shorter implementation times and reduced costs in the process.
