We chat with Broc Pearson after a trying start to the season
Broc Pearson
Trevor Hedge: Broc, it must have been a disappointing weekend, you look really sad, give us a look, I know you had some technical issues over the weekend, that’s on continue to take place in the last race?
Broc Pearson: “Yes, we faced them all weekend and today, unfortunately, we didn’t get past them. So a bit disappointing results for what has led well in terms of testing.
“We were pretty fast in Sydney considering the number of laps we did. Even here, I was pretty quick to lead to this event. I’ve been fighting the people before leading here who are on the podium today, so we just have to get ahead of it.
“I’m not upset when we have a problem, obviously it’s not interesting, more or less the team has gone above them and realized how important it is.
“All the boys want to win as much as I do and be on top of the pitch. We have a lot to overcome and luckily for us, it’s been a long season and we’re going to keep building and going on at the top.”
Trev: Are the problems mainly due to the electronic gremlin, I think the quick shifter is one of them?
Margins: “In short, yes, it’s a bunch of that sort of thing. As a racer, I try not to get too involved, I just want to ride and not have to worry about too many other things. So the boys have a bit of a hand in diagnosing what’s going on, and once we do that, we’ll be fine.”
Trev: With the problems you had, you still managed to bring it home for all three rounds and actually racked up a decent amount of points. Are you satisfied with the work you have done?
Margin: “I did what I could. I’m glad we got points in every race, but we didn’t come just to win a few of them and go home..”
Trev: Can you follow Josh Waters any time during the weekend?
Margin: “No, I don’t see him on the right track at any point. I don’t care about that either, I need to focus on myself..”
Trev: Would you say Phillip Island is probably the track where you usually have the most difficulty? And how would you rate your chances at SMP later this month, a track where you might have the least experience of any place on the calendar, outside of the Hidden Valley?
Margin: “Phillip Island is a weird place for me, because I’ve had a weird day when I feel super comfortable and other days I don’t click. But I like the circuit. I don’t have much time in Sydney, that’s for sure, but the lap suits my style a lot better and I’m sure we can be strong there. My goal is to be in the top 5, I need to be there. After doing that, we can reframe our goal. I have never been to Darwin so I will have less experience there as well. I adapt to the music pretty well so I’m not too worried.”
Trev: Good luck on the sequel.
