In spite of The Owl is about the twins Aqua and Ruby, a lot of the early volumes of the manga focus on him instead of her. Which is understandable, since he’s written as main character for a while at first. However, with episode 7 of The Owl We get to see this change as certain developments bring a sense of resolution to some of Aqua’s story and give Ruby a chance to step back into the spotlight.

Episode 7 of The Owl start with Tokyo Blade The stage play that we’ve seen coming together over the course of several chapters finally plays out. It’s a huge payoff in many ways. First, we finally get to see the culmination of the rivalry between Akane and Kana. It also gave a troubled production a chance to come together, and seeing things actually go better than expected was a relief.
But more importantly, this is a big deal for Aqua and his character in the The Owl. We see before this point that a part of him will not let this quest for revenge for Ai die. It negatively affects his daily life, with an inner voice that may or may not be his past identity chiding him for even considering continuing. So at the climax of this novel, we see him do the thing he fears the most. He actually acts again. He uses emotional acting after a long time on the run, and in doing so, he makes a major breakthrough about himself.
This method is handled in The Owl The manga is fantastic, with Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari switching between Aqua’s personal revelation and performance. We get to see how he taps into those memories and how it affects his behavior on stage. Likewise, the insights he gains from doing so provide this revelation of what he’s dealing with and allow him to be able to deal with the problem in a way that could make his life different in the future.
This, followed by meaningful conversations with Toshiro Kindaichi and Taiki Himekawa, really makes The Owl Volume 7 seems to keep giving the reader valuable insights into the characters. We finally get to know Aqua. We see her grow up. We watch as she learns more about her past.
At the same time, Akasaka and Yokoyari did a great job of transitioning into the sequel. The Owl plot at the end of episode 7. After the performance of Tokyo BladeWe see Ruby in the audience the whole time. She notices how far everyone, including Aqua and Kana, has come while she’s been watching the show. With that seed planted, the end of the episode takes the opportunity to shift the focus back to her and the new B-Komachi. Seeing the group start to make some decisions, as well as choosing to return to their old roots, paves the way for her growth as well.
The Owl Volume 7 really feels like one of the most important volumes of the manga, in part because of the growth it brings to Aqua. We see her come to terms with her pain and come to terms with the trauma she’s been dealing with for years. We see the stage play finally come to fruition. We see people like Kana and Akane come to the fore. Most importantly, we also see a great transition that brings the story back to Ruby. It’s all handled incredibly well.
