Liquid Bit’s multiplayer strategy game Killer Queen Black will be shutting down on November 30, in an update posted to developer siteMatt Tesch – CEO of Liquid Bit – shared disappointing news with fans (thanks, Nintendo Everything).

The reason for closing the game is because Amazon closed it Amazon GameSparks, a service that allows developers to build games while allowing AWS (Amazon Web Service) to manage and scale cloud infrastructure. The service was shut down on September 30, which Bit Liquid said it didn’t show up.

Here is the official statement from the CEO:

“Dear Killer Queen Black Players and Friends,

With a heavy heart, we announce that after three great years, KQB will be offline on November 30, 2022.

This is not something that was planned or anticipated. KQB is built on Amazon GameSparks, our game backend service. Unfortunately, Amazon decided to shut down this service on September 30th. We’ve moved mountains and spent a whole treasure moving to another provider, but unfortunately, the task is close. as a complete rewrite of the game and that is not in the cards for Liquid Bit at this time. We are planning on open source development of the game and hopefully, with some luck and support, it will rise again in the future.

We know this comes as a shock and disappointment to many of you who have put so much time and energy into playing our game and making the community the great place it is today. in. We can assure you that we are just as disappointed as you are.

Please note that we’ve done everything we can to keep the online component alive – unfortunately it’s beyond our capabilities as an indie developer. However, we have secured a two-month extension from Amazon to use the service until November 30 so that our tournament match can end without interruption.

Liquid Bit is ongoing and we are continuing to build our new title, which we hope to share soon. Rest assured, we’ll make sure issues of this kind don’t hinder our production or shut down our future online games again.

It’s been a wild run and I’m grateful for everyone’s support. Thank you. – Matt Tesch”

Fortunately, it looks like Liquid Bit is looking to the future and is hoping to reveal its new title “very soon”, but it’s certainly disappointing news for fans of the game to learn that it’s not. will be closed next week.

We reviewed the game when it was ported to Switch in 2019 and give it 8/10 well deservedcall it “easily picked up but incalculably cunning to master”.

Let us know if you’re a Killer Queen Black player in the comments and share your thoughts on the game’s closure below.
