Developer Lunark’s Next Game Is a Short Recap of Link’s Awakening
Canari Games, the studio behind the amazing 2023 cinematic platform game Moonreveal a lovely Link’s Awakening-inspired adventure from earlier this year. At the time, the game was only confirmed for PC, but today, the developer revealed that the game will indeed be coming to Switch—and soon!
Derelict launching on Nintendo Switch and all other platforms on August 16, 2024 and will only hold you back. $7.99 / £6.99In the game, you play as Martin, an explorer who crashes on an island. His pet is soon kidnapped (kidnapped?) and he must go rescue it.
Castaway is an incredibly streamlined version of the Zelda formula; its Story Mode only takes a few hours to complete, but beating it unlocks Survivor Mode. Here, you’ll climb a 50-story tower that offers plenty of challenges. Plus, it looks great, with colorful GBA-style visuals and a catchy soundtrack.
Canari Games wants Castaway to cater to all ages, and there are a variety of modes and difficulty options that allow players to tailor the game to their needs. ‘Pacifist’ will remove enemies from the game, leaving only simple puzzles to solve; there’s an ‘invincible’ mode that lets you fight without fear of death; if you’re looking for a challenge, then ‘unfair’ mode might be for you.
There’s even a speedrun mode to see how long it takes you to defeat all three bosses and rescue your little pet. Pretty much everything you could want from a little adventure like this.
We’re big fans of Lunark, so when Canari Games announced Castaway back in April, we were praying for a Switch release. Luckily, it’s coming, and it’s very, very early.
