Quake Remastered now has a mob mode
It sometimes feels as if, in a sufficiently long timeline, all first-person shooters tend to be the same game by interweaving modes. Case in point: Quake now has a mob mode. It comes as part of a new update to Quake Remastered, Bethesda’s recent classic 3D shooter. Crowd mode is made by MachineGames for 1-4 players – and the update also includes a new (or “new”) single-player add-on.
Like I said above, I don’t quite like the idea of playing a Quake mode where you fight enemies that are getting harder and harder with friends. I’m. Quake’s mob mode is playable on any difficulty level and includes four new maps designed specifically for it. Players score points by killing enemies, every 3rd wave has a boss monster and every 9th wave gives you the option to run away or keep fighting for a higher score.
The add-on meanwhile is a single player campaign called Honey. It was newly baked into Quake and was created by Machine Games senior designer Christian Grawert. It’s a beautiful level, set in a foggy village with long distances that still impress me when I see them in Quake. It’s just “new” because Grawert originally released Honey as a map pack back to 2012. There are instructions on how to access Honey here.
This update also marks the launch of Quake on Epic Games Store. Steam and Epic owners can still play together through Bethesda.net’s friends list.
