CHRB requires license to access stable areas
The California Horse Racing Commission requires all individuals entering the stable, including members of the media, to obtain a CHRB license. Those who require occasional access to the stable will not need a permit but must log in as a guest of the host racecourse. Non-CHRB vehicle credentials are not sufficient to enter the restricted stable area.
Historically, all news media have been screened and approved by the publicity department of each track. Legitimate traders have been granted access to stable areas. This practice will continue for those infrequently needing access to stable areas. But those with more frequent presence in stable areas will need to obtain a CHRB “Z” (Other) permit from one of the CHRB licensing offices. The fee for the Z license is $75, and depending on the applicant’s date of birth, the license is valid for two to three years. All applicants must be fingerprinted and screened for criminal history in California and nationally. Individuals have until August 31 to comply.
