Longtime purebred dog owner Wayne Spalding passed away March 17 at the age of 56, after a long battle with cancer.
Along with his childhood best friend Faron McCubbins, Spalding is best known as the owner of the Grade 1 award winning grass horse. Bullards . Alley . Spalding purchased gelding from Fasig-Tipton’s Summer Selected Race Car Sale in 2014, paying $11,000 to his son. Flower Lane .
Over the next four years, the bargain-priced Bullards Alley will take its owner on a thrilling ride through numerous graded wins and even a tour of the Breeders’ World Championships next year. 2017. Bullards Alley has won six of his 40 career starts and has three winning streaks, earning $928,622. Gelding had to die in 2018 when he fractured his hind leg while running Dixiana Elkhorn Stakes (G2T) at Keeneland.
Among Spalding’s other top horses are the six figure earners Happy rice , Dark Arden and Lilleandra .
“Wayne would do anything to help someone,” said longtime Spalding coach Tim Glyshaw. “I will always be grateful for the memories of his horse Bullards Alley winning the Canadian International more than 10 times. We have lost a wonderful owner.”
