Labor leader, Sir Keir Starmer, said one of his shadow ministers was sacked yesterday for delivering a policy “on the horseshoe” as he stood on a fence during strikes rail.

Sam Tarry is dismissed from his role as grassroots shadow transport minister after he disobeyed orders asking Labor MPs not to appear on rail lines during Wednesday’s rail strike.

He told Sky News that workers should be offered a raise in line with inflation – yet Labour’s view is that pay negotiations are left to unions and ministers.

Speaking for the first time since being sacked, Sir Keir explained: “Sam Tarry was sacked because he signed himself up for media shows without permission and then made a policy based on horseshoes. .

“That can’t be tolerated in any organization because we have a collective responsibility, so it’s relatively simple.”

“As far as industrial activity is concerned, of course, I fully understand the frustration of a lot of working people when they see prices rising, inflation and their wages not rising.

“So the Labor Party will always be on the side of the working people but we need to have a collective responsibility like any organization.”

Earlier, former shadow chancellor John McDonnell, who is still an MP, told Sky News he is supporting Mr. Tarry’s position and criticizing Sir Keir for sacking him.

He said it was a “serious mistake” because the Labor Party was founded by unions “so when unions have a cause, we support them – and this is a cause”.
