Many people have died after a mass shooting outside Chicago, NBC News reported.
Authorities confirmed that gunfire was heard at the July 4 parade in Highland Park, a suburb of Illinois, killing at least six people and injuring 24.
According to NBC News, Highland Park Police Commander Chris O’Neill confirmed finding a rifle but authorities were still “hunting for the shooter” just after 10:14 a.m. local time.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Department also tweeted on July 4 that they were “supporting Highland Park Police in a shooting in the area of the Independence Day parade route,” and urged people, “Stay OUT OF THE AREA – allow those law enforcement and first responders do their job.”
