Now Lucid Air As a practical fact, there is a looming question: how well does it perform in a drag race with another famous electric luxury sedan, Tesla’s Plaid Model S? Now you have a better idea. DragTimes shared a tease long ago video of the quarter mile confrontation between the Air and the Model S Plaidand immediate results are expected but still full of insights.
You won’t be shocked to hear it Model WILL Plaid won three out of four runs, including one that started rolling. It has a claimed shorter 0 to 60 time (1.99 seconds versus 2.5) and lighter curb weight (4,828 pounds versus about 5,200), which helps make up for the shortfall in horsepower. The Tesla also does not enable pull strip preparation mode. If you’re lucky enough to cross-purchase these EVs, the Model S remains your choice for raw acceleration.
Still, the Lucid Air performed well, and it even won a race when the Model S Plaid’s warm-up mode wasn’t engaged. That extra power is still important, in other words – and it’s worth considering if you’re more interested in green light races (where launch mode probably won’t be an option) than bands drag. Lucid also points out that you can prep the Air for better straight-line performance, and that it’s currently focusing more on “luxury and efficiency” rather than speed.
Conditions were not ideal between the relatively cold temperatures for the Houston area strip and strong winds. You will likely see faster times elsewhere. Even so, the video is still worth it as it’s a rare opportunity to see how the difference is tram management platform under real conditions. It also shows how far the EV has come – these are numbers that you’d previously associate with the higher-end line supercarnot the four-door carrier.
