So, how do you get the best travel deal if you’re trying to book a cruise for next summer and beyond?

Below, we’ve rounded up the top six tips for finding a bargain on a cruise. These are travel tricks that can work at any time – not just when fares are on the rise. Combine some of these strategies and you’re sure to find the best yacht deals available on your next trip.
Off-season cruise
As for land-based resorts, cruise ship floating resorts can be significantly cheaper during the “off-season” travel months of September, October and November.
These are the months when children typically go back to school and family trips decrease, leading to a decrease in demand for many types of travel, including cruises.
In the Caribbean, it’s also hurricane season, keeping some people away from land-based resorts and cruise ships in the area.

Aside from the fall months, the off-season to fly typically includes parts of January and February, but it varies by region.
Traditionally, the summer months of June, July, and August are peak season in many tourist destinations such as the Caribbean, Europe, and Alaska. The period around major holidays – such as Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day – is also considered a busy season for flights and brings higher prices.
Book early
It’s a growing truth of the yachting world: the earlier you book, the better prices you’ll get.
Cruise lines often open departures to book at the lowest price they want to sell trips. Then, as departures began to fill up, they slowly raised prices on the remaining inventory.
To get the best price on any given cruise, your best bet in many cases is to book as soon as the cruise goes on sale. This means planning Street advance, as many travel agencies open reservations for trips two or even three years before departure.
Remote reservation can pay in many ways. A big advantage of booking ahead of time is that you are more likely to get the exact type of cabin you want. On many ships, the cheapest cabins and the most expensive suites often sell out first and quickly.

Worried that you might miss out on a deal by pre-booking a super faraway excursion? Here’s the good news: if for some reason your yacht costs drop at a later date, you can often get a discount on your ticket to match the lower price. This usually happens until the last few months before the trip begins, when the trip enters what is known as the “final payment” window. At that point, the fare you paid for is locked.
Note that not all fare types are subject to change after booking to the fare you paid for. It is important to read the fine print for the type of fare you are booking.
Late booking
As noted above, cruise lines typically offer the lowest fares for any trip as soon as it’s open for bookings – often two or even three years before it’s scheduled to begin. .
Generally, the fare will then only increase as the train date approaches. But in some cases, cruise lines will great last minute yacht discounts. This can happen when the route finds that there are a lot of unsold cabins for a trip.
If you’re flexible and can travel on short notices, you can sometimes find a last-minute deal for travel where lines are scrambling to fill the docks.
One important thing to know here is that last minute discounts are not as common as they used to be. Cruise lines have become much more knowledgeable about revenue management over the years.
You will also have to be flexible to take advantage of these offers. If you have a particular type of cabin on a particular voyage on a particular ship you’re looking to vacation on, you can’t believe it’s available – especially not at the lowest price.
Sailing on an older ship
At many major carriers, you’ll find that the newest, most fully-equipped cruise ships sell for premium prices. Older ships are discounted.
Of course, ships are older, and sometimes they don’t have as much to offer on board as newer ships. But if you’re looking for a deal, they can be great value.
Use a travel agent

A big reason for this is that travel agents that sell trains often have access to lower bulk fares for trips that are not available to the public. Some of the best bargains in the world of travel are the trips that cruise ships make as they reposition from one part of the world.
This is because shipping lines often have a hard time selling these trips, which often have somewhat odd itineraries with very few port calls and lots of sea days. They also tend to be a bit longer than standard weekend getaways or weeklong trips. They have to discount trips to fill up the ships as much as possible.

Among the most popular repositioning cruises you’ll see are those between the Caribbean and Europe in the spring when the lines switch to the Mediterranean in the summer. Likewise, there is always a wave of repositioning travel between Europe and the Caribbean in the fall.
