Dogs are extremely intuitive and aware of their surroundings. They know when the person is sad and can start to get stressed when their family is in turmoil. Some people believe that dogs can predict when someone is about to die or can see spirits. Here are some other great things dogs can sense, for one reason or another.
1. Earthquake
Ancient Greek records tell of dogs fleeing the city of Helice before a catastrophic earthquake. China also has stories of dogs showing signs of pain before earthquakes. Although dogs are very aware of their surroundings, some scientists believe that dogs’ hearing is so sharp, they can hear the sound of rocks breaking on the ground. Some seismologists suggest that dogs sense seismic activity through their paws. Either way, if a dog in an earthquake-prone area begins to behave oddly, the change in behavior should not be ignored.
2. Storm
Like earthquakes, dogs can sense something on the horizon. Hurricanes create an electromagnetic force that dogs can sense before the storm makes landfall. Dogs also use their excellent hearing and can hear thunder rumbling from miles away. Their olfactory senses are about 100 times more sensitive than humans and can very well smell electric currents in the air.
3. Illnesses (including cancer)
Humans give off the unpleasant odor of diseases, such as certain cancers and diabetes. It’s too subtle for other people to notice, but with a dog’s excellent sense of smell, they can sniff out something that might be amiss. If a dog is obsessively sniffing a particular area of the owner’s body, a trip to the doctor should be made.
4. Epilepsy
Some dogs are specially trained to be epileptic alert dogs. These dogs are taught to warn their owners of an impending seizure. Sometimes they even lie on top of their owners during a seizure and call for help when possible. Not all dogs are trained to recognize the signs of an impending seizure. Instinctively, they knew what was going to happen, but no one knew exactly How does a dog perceive this.
5. Labor
There have been documented reports of dogs predicting the onset of labor in pregnant women. Warning signals include dogs becoming the shadow of their pregnant owner the day before or the day labor begins. Guess how these dogs know to prepare for new pleasures including feeling the physical transitions of pregnancy or the woman emitting the “smell of labor”.
