3M Expanded Leaderboard 2022: Scott Piercy Extends Lead With Great Round 2 At TPC Twin Cities

Scott Piercy extended his Round 1 lead on Friday at the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities and has a three-stroke advantage over Emiliano Grillo and a five-stroke lead over third-place Callum Tarren on the Festival of Motion. The tournament has become Piercy’s to lose by half a point, but there are several heavyweights waiting to be wiped out if he falters in the final two innings.

Tony Finau was the biggest of these names as he assisted his 67 in Round 1 with 68 in Round 2 and is still on this list after a month of perhaps his best golf day of the year. he. His story is one of the biggest to watch as this tournament heats up over the next few days and our first Post-Open Championship winner has been determined.

We’ll get into all that and more in this Round 2 recap.

Leaders

1. Scott Piercy (-13): After shooting the best round on Thursday, Piercy shot the second best round on Friday. That’s usually a good recipe. Incredibly, Piercy remained hot with his putter in Round 2 and led the event by a wide margin with over eight strokes on the green. If you’re looking for a reason to go against him in a match or tournament in general, that’s a pretty good one.

On the other hand, he hit the ball brilliantly, and had only one bogey in his first 36 holes. Here’s an indicator of how well he’s played so far this week: Piercy has hit twice as many strokes on the field as the group of players currently ranked ninth. He’s looking for his first individual PGA Tour win since 2015 when he won the Barbasol championship.

“Obviously it feels great,” Piercy said of his narration. “It’s been a bit since I played like I feel like I should. To prove it to myself again, I know it’s in there, it’s like, okay, how do we do it? Take it away from me. There’s a lot to take care of this weekend, but to get out on the pitch for the first two days and do what I’ve done gives me a lot of confidence going into the weekend.”

Other candidates

2. Emiliano Grillo (-10)

3. Callum Tarren (-8)

T4. Sungjae Im, Robert Streb, Tony Finau, Tom Hoge (-7)

Finau is in a perfect position to get his first win of the season. While it is true that he is six behind Piercy, it is also true that he is second in the field in the game from tee to green by a wide margin. He’s been a below-average pitcher this week, meaning that if anything starts to drop, he’ll be a hand in the last two innings. Finau also has a good history here, with three top 30 finishes and a T3 title in 2020. By the way, Hoge is the only player in the field to hit Finau better. He also lost the club with his putter.

Quote of the day

Finau was asked how he handled his flight from Scotland to Minnesota, and his answer was great (and easy to understand!).

“I always tell people this, a lot of people sleep, coffee – coffee is a huge thing – but when you have 5 kids on your face, as soon as you see them, the jet state goes away. “, Finau said. “Maybe that’s a huge reason why I don’t feel like I’m late for the plane, I have family here and I’m happy.”

Scenes of the day

Chesson Hadley hit a really ridiculous chip off the green, onto a small patch of grit, back onto the green and somehow made it. Do not try this at home. Hadley shot 2 under and was T9 after two innings.

3M Open Odds, Picks

Here is the updated odds table after 36 holes of the match, via Caesars Sportsbook.

  • Scott Piercy: 5/2
  • Emiliano Grillo: 5-1
  • Tony Finau: 11/2
  • Sungjae Im: 6-1
  • Callum Tarren: 12-1
  • Tom Hoge: 14-1
  • Doug Pin: 25-1

Just by the numbers, I love Finau and Hoge here. The out-of-control hitter will probably catch up to Piercy at some point, and Finau and Hoge are hitting the ball like tournament winners right now. Hoge not only leads on green tees but also leads in approach shots and will have a lot of pictures over the next two days. Six shots looks like a lot, but it’ll probably be shorter after the third round. I prefer Hoge at 14-1 to Finau at 11/2, but I will choose either.
