Tired of the tasteless patties thrown at each other as afterthoughts, I knew it was time for me to take matters into my own hands. And so, my Falafel Sweet Potato Burger recipe was born.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for a world where vegetarian alternatives a lot, makes me feel less abandoned when summer barbecue season begin. And with this Falafel Sweet Potato Burger recipe (literally) in hand, I now actually looking forward to the months barbecue front.

In my quest to find a truly delicious homemade veggie burger, I’ve reached for a few ingredients that give me a delicious taste, and I always have it on hand. I wanted flavor over taste (even more flavors), something that’s easy to assemble and will keep people coming back for seconds. Get ready for a recipe that fits all boxes — and more.

How to Make This Sweet Potato Falafel Burger Recipe

As the name suggests, these burgers are a combination of classic falafel ingredients and everyone’s favorite tuber, sweet potato. With the savory and characteristic flavor of the spice, you can bet these burgers will be delicious.

The problem with a lot of burgers that have vegetables is that the texture can sometimes be too soft. And while they can taste delicious, it can be a bit difficult to assemble and eat burgers when they don’t have enough texture. I’ve noted a few ways to make assembly and cooking easier, taking you one step closer to delicious results.

  1. Pre-cook your vegetables. This reduces the amount of water in the burger and allows for a firmer texture. A shortcut, quick? Microwave! This reduces the cooking time tenfold. Plus, sautéing onions with spices not only enhances the flavor of the seasoning, but also removes the water.
  2. Refrigerate your patties. Putting burgers in the fridge will make it easier for you to prepare/cook. I recommend chilling for at least an hour if you want to cook these on the same night. But if time permits, let your patties chill overnight.
  3. Oven versus Pan-Seared. These burgers can be made in a pan on the stovetop or in the oven. If you’re using a wok, pour oil into the pan and make sure to let the burgers brown completely before flipping them over to avoid sticking. Also, don’t shape the patties too wide, as this will make it harder to turn and could break the burger. Which, if that happens, don’t worry, just put it together. If using the oven, be aware that it will dry out the burgers only slightly, so make sure to oil both sides evenly and flip halfway while baking.

What do I serve with my burgers?

While the burgers are packed with flavor, I have the most fun when it comes to assembling. You’re completely free to let your creativity and a sense of desire guide you (highly recommended!), but rest assured knowing there’s no shortage of inspiration to get you started.

Everyone loves a classic, and nothing speaks to nostalgia like tomatoes, lettuce, and cheese (and your choice of seasoning, of course). But when it comes to my personal taste, I prefer Mediterranean flavors, and I find that this approach pairs perfectly with this particular recipe.

For a burger that tastes like you’re sitting down to dinner on a gorgeous Greek island, start with feta yogurt sauce. I love the savory side of this recipe and the burger’s ability to balance the sweetness. The good news is that this type of clothing couldn’t be easier to put together. Mix some Feta with Greek yogurt, and add lemon juice and cilantro if you’d like. Spread on your cake. To go.

If that combination doesn’t work for you, you can also try the shallot and cucumber for a fresh bite. I also think that caramelized onions or charred vegetables could be good dishes. Experiment with different ingredient combinations and create your own personalized burger that perfectly suits your taste.

And of course, it wouldn’t be a great summer burger if you weren’t serving your favorite crisps or fries on the side.
