We feed our doxies (and other puppies) 1) reduced amount of kibble (per DVM), raw and cooked carrots, a few pieces of chopped green beans, some (very little) chicken cooked and a little chicken broth. Their weight varies 1-2 lbs……mainly due to too many ‘snacks’ and not enough activity due to bad weather (no walking)

They told me that green beans were the best and used them as snacks and things. It’s hard not to make them overweight. Their small personality makes it very difficult

I had a lot of dogs. Today, veterinarians recommend a lot of expensive well-known brands. I told my friends not to buy it. Their dogs all have stomach problems. My Brand Chow Purina Chó original crushed stone. Been about 60 years at least. The best. All of my dogs live to be 15, except for one of my Doxie Lillys who live to be 18. Expensive doesn’t necessarily mean healthy.

My Doxie just went to the vet TODAY because she is overweight. He needs to lose 9 lbs. but to be fair, he sprained his leg which made it impossible for him to walk. The vet brought him in Royal Canin Satiety Supports Weight Management. I will mix it with its other food and slowly transition it to this 100% Royal Canin feed. It was also my fault for giving him small pieces of my food. So now we start the tough weight loss program for mom’s love! Good luck to him (me)!!

Chicken and brown rice and green beans. Or sweet potatoes or pumpkins. Chickpeas soaked in chicken or beef broth. I make food for all my dogs. My Katie is very overweight, she weighs 25 lbs and is down to 18. With six months. Pumpkin and green beans. But make sure she eats chicken breast once a day. About 1/2 cup. And some rice. When she lost enough, I started adding kibble. Using chicken or beef broth really helps. I cook for five dogs at once. Make a batch of whatever you’re using and put it in a freezer bag. Oh Katie loves watermelon. Nice treatment. I don’t believe dogs should be hungry when they need to lose weight. Also, natural peanut butter is only 1/2 teaspoon. I make oat and pumpkin peanut butter. Bake like cookies. I only have one little girl left. Now she is 16 years old. I am 77 years old and I will adopt another Senior if I decide to have another. I have had dachshunds for the past 20 years. With a boxer here and there.

I cook 1lb ground turkey. or 2, or I mix turkey and chicken or chicken. I use 2 lbs in any combination of 2 meats. Then, one or two bags of California-style frozen mixed vegetables can be microwaved, when they’re all fully cooked, I blend them in a food blender, scoop them out into a plastic sandwich container and then around 9am and 4pm I feed him about 1/1/2 teaspoon of it for food on the stomach. I keep it in the fridge or frozen if it’s not the container being used. Then, warm for 10 seconds to cool and serve. It usually lasts 3 to 4 weeks and you can get the meeting at a discount and save money. The vegetables are broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. My vet says to feed him a tablespoon a day, that’s why 1 1/2 teaspoons or 3 teaspoons makes up one tablespoon.
