2025 Ram 1500 REV debuts at NYIAS – up to 229 kWh battery, 805 km electric range; dual engine 663 PS, 841 Nm

Ram Trucks has revealed more details about its first all-electric pickup truck – the RAM 1500 REPLACEMENTS – at the 2023 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). The new model was announced back in February of this year and will compete with Ford F-150 Lightning as Chevrolet Silverado EV.

While it may be late, the Ram 1500 REV boasts some impressive numbers. At launch, customers will be able to choose from two battery capacities, including a 168 kWh unit that has a target range of 563 km (350 miles). If that’s not enough, there’s also a 229 kWh battery pack that offers a range of up to 805 km (500 miles).

The automaker noted in its release that the Ram 1500 REV XR will launch in the future to offer “outstanding range”. This will join the original lineup consisting of five versions: Tradesman, Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, Limited and a new Tungsten.

Both batteries support DC fast charging up to 350 kW thanks to the truck’s 800-volt electrical construction, with a 177 km (110 mi) range that can be recovered in about 10 minutes. The company adds that Level 1 and 2 AC charging is also standard, with the charging port located on the left front fender.

Energy from the battery is sent to two electric drive modules (EDMs) that integrate the electric motor, gearbox and inverter. Each EDM is rated at 340 PS (335 hp or 250 kW) and the all-wheel drive setup is expected to deliver 663 PS (654 hp or 488 kW) and 841 lb-ft of torque. Nm. With these numbers, the company is aiming for a 0-96 km/h (0-60 mph) sprint in 4.4 seconds.

For truck jobs, Ram says a towing capacity of 6,350 kilograms (14,000 pounds), a maximum payload of 1,225 kilograms (2,700 pounds) and a wading capacity of 610 mm (24 inches). Upon arrival at the work site, users will have access to an on-board electrical panel, with the panel in the bed capable of delivering up to 7.2 kW, while the panel in the front trunk has a capacity of up to 3.6 kW – enough for most electrical appliances and tools.

There’s even support for two-way charging so the battery can be used to charge another EV as well as power the home or the grid in case of an emergency. For even more convenience, a lockable bed storage compartment called the RamBox can be optional for those who need a weatherproof storage bin that also has a 115-volt outlet.

The foundation of the Ram 1500 REV is Stellantis’ STLA (Stella) platform which has the same body-on-frame design as most trucks. The chassis comes standard with a multi-link independent rear suspension as well as a four-corner air suspension with adaptive damping, the latter offering five different modes: in/out, aerodynamics , normal, terrain 1 and terrain 2.

Like its rivals, the Ram 1500 REV doesn’t stand out too much for its styling, but there are marks to distinguish it as being electric-only. For example, the front grille is largely closed and features an illuminated RAM badge as well as matching light bars with the daytime running lights on the headlights, which feature a square illumination pattern.

Likewise, the rear taillights extend into the power-assisted tailgate, which the company calls a “tunnel tuning” signature. Other notable mentions include wheel options ranging in size from 20 to 22 inches and the best-in-class cargo capacity of 425 liters (15 cubic feet).

This “familiar but different” approach also affects the interior, which looks a lot like a normal ram 1500, but packed with technology. Available features include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch vertical-format central touchscreen, and an optional 10.25-inch passenger display. More screens are offered including a digital rearview mirror and a 10-inch head-up display.

The largest screen linked to the Uconnect 5 infotainment system has EV-specific pages to show things like power flow, range of impact, one-pedal driving access, history driver and other driver-related information.

The EV also eschews the traditional gearshift lever for dialing the e-shifter located next to the touchscreen, which comes with buttons for eco mode, axle lock, downhill control, and trunk opening/closing. Customers will also have a variety of premium materials and trim to choose from depending on their preferred trim level.

Last but not least, there are a number of driver assistance systems that can be optional, including Hands-Free Active Driving Assist, ParkSense Automatic Parking, Automatic Emergency Braking, Hold Assist lanes, adaptive cruise control, and turn-by-turn navigation.
