2025 Maserati GranCabrio Folgore: Electric convertible grand tourer

The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore 2025 was revealed, becoming one of the few electric convertible models sold globally.

Currently, MG Cyberster is the only mass-produced electric convertible on sale – if you don’t count the GMC Hummer EV, which has four removable roof panels.

Like the gasoline-powered versions of the Maserati GranCabrioIt’s a simple equation: take GranTurismo coupe and replace the fixed roof with a soft top.

Under the skin, the electric models are identical, both featuring a three-motor layout with up to 610kW of power in ‘MaxBoost’ mode or 560kW and 1350Nm of torque otherwise.

This is a significant improvement over the 404kW and 650Nm of the V6 twin-turbo GranCabrio, resulting in a much quicker claimed 0-100km/h time of 2.8 seconds for the Folgore – or faster 0.8 seconds compared to gasoline models.

MaxBoost is a sub-mode of the Corsa driving mode, which itself is the most aggressive of the four variable settings offered with Max Range, GT and Sport.

The 83kWh battery packs power to three electric motors, delivering a claimed driving range of between 419km and 447km on the WLTP laboratory test cycle. The battery can be recharged at up to 270kW on a DC fast charger.

Maserati claims the GranCabrio Folgore “sits lower than any other electric car on the market,” although it doesn’t specify whether this is the roofline or the sills.

What it did confirm was the electric convertible’s curb weight: 2340kg. In contrast, the GranCabrio equipped with a V6 engine weighs 1895kg.

In addition to the GranCabrio Folgore’s regenerative braking system, the gasoline model’s Brembo braking system (six-piston front, four-piston rear) helps control the electric vehicle.

The cabin features a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster – customizable across four screens – along with a smaller 8.8-inch screen for the control system climate.

New Econyl upholstery comes standard, made from recycled nylon and laser-cut with a unique pattern exclusive to Folgore.

No hard metal roof is offered, with the Folgore’s soft top able to fold closed in 16 seconds and open in 14 seconds, both at speeds of up to 50km/h.

Maserati has yet to confirm when the GranCabrio Folgore will be available in Australia. The standard GranCabrio – sold exclusively as Trofeo – is expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2024 (October to December inclusive), priced from $475,000 before on-road costs .
