2024 Mazda CX-5 facelift review – Can this 7-year-old C-segment SUV still compete with newer competitors?

The Second generation Mazda CX-5 now seven years old, and even innovation launched earlier this year has existed since then September 2021. So it’s clear that this family SUV is nearing the end of its life, so has it been eclipsed by newer rivals?

Well, that’s why we tested the latest model – and with the range-topping 2.5 Turbo High AWD version. Its RM188,760 The price certainly seems high, but now other C-segment SUVs (such as New Honda CR-V) has also crossed the RM190,000 mark, the price of the premium model has almost normalized.

The CX-5’s design may look extremely familiar given the sheer number of cars on the road these days, but taken individually it still looks great, with precise curves and plenty of sensuous surfaces. The facelift has been quite successful in updating the design thanks to more assertive L-shaped head and taillight graphics, a larger and bolder grille and a cleaner bumper design.

Inside, the CX-5 retains a premium feel, with a well-built interior, enhanced by new features such as a 7-inch digital instrument display, head-up display and seats. redesigned. However, even this top-of-the-line model lacks a larger 10.25-inch infotainment screen, Bose sound system, and any form of hands-free trunk opening function.

Thankfully, the CX-5 is thoroughly modern under the hood, where you’ll find a 2.5-liter turbocharged Skyactiv-G four-cylinder engine that produces a strong 231 PS and 420 torque Nm. Combined with a conventional 6-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system with variable torque distribution, the car will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds and achieve Claimed fuel consumption is 9.1 liters/100 km according to the WLTP cycle.

There are plenty of redeeming qualities to the CX-5, but can it really keep up with newer rivals? And in a world where cars are becoming increasingly tech-heavy, is the old-school Mazda starting to make more sense? Find out in the video review below.
